HI STU, thanks for your reply,Ronnie Bennett has been making steels for a very long time, and they are concidered to be as good as anything on the market, this little beauty has a 3x5 set up,single coil pick up 4up 4 down changer.and is not that heavy .

Can we get a closeup of that keyless head? It looks different from any I've seen.

Ron Bennett is a master. He reconditioned my Sho Bud 6139 and it's never given me a problem in 10 years. I just took it to Don at Scotty's for a service and he said that Ron did a great job - it took me a while to convince him the the finish wasn't original ! Don too did an excellent job and the guitar plays better than ever.
Unfortuntely, I don't have Rons contact details, he's in Liverpool somewhere. If anyone has his number i'd love to get hold of it.

Does he make a Universal 12? If not, he should.
How's that baby sound?
Best regards,
Mike

The last number I had for Ron was 0151.6084562 - UK number, you will have to add the UK country code from the states.

The keyless mechanism grips the strings WITHOUT any screws, just by counter leverage force.
A search of the forum yielded this result. :-
Ron's number is 0151-608-4562 from outside the UK int+ 151-608-4562 and his address is :-

With regard to the keyless changer, if you notice, the string gauge is stamped on each lever/clamp system. That's because the string goes down through a slot and then the mechanism clamps it as it raises the pitch. (It is flexable a few 'thou either way) !!
Ron has this system patented.
You just push the string down though the slot and tighten up the tuning key until you're at pitch. Snip off the string underneath with snips and that's it. Of course you can just bend the string back and forth until it breaks and it'll still hold in the slot.

Jim - how long are you going to hold onto this guitar before you move on to something else? I would like a tenner for every steel guitar you have owned.
It's a very nice machine, and Ron is moving on with his engineering mind. You say it's not heavy - for us old codgers with bad backs, is it reasonably portable?

Thanks, Basil. GREAT pics of Mr. Bennet's workmanship. Your's is georgous, but I like that 12 stringer of your son's. Now if his had the finish your's has got, I might have to hock the house to get one!!
Best regards,
Mike
