Jonnie Aluani / Luke Leilani album

Post by Jeff Strouse »

I was going through some records and found this LP SpinoRama M3015:

Notice the Artist "Jonnie Aluani" and the title, "Hawaiian Interlude"...

Now, Here's the back:

The ablum title is "Hawaiian Rhythm"...

And finally, the record itself is titled "Hawaiian Holiday" with "Luke Leilani & his Hawaiian Rhythm":

Interesting, eh? Same song list, same album number.

Does anyone out there know if it's Johnnie Aluani or Luke Leilani? I'm new to both artists, and would like to know for cataloging purposes. There are no list of musicians on the cover, so I also don't know who is playing steel on the album.

Years ago I saw and bought similar albums. I honestly think they made up the names and many of the song titles were changed for whatever reason...possibly copywrite. Anyway, these albums were usually found in the five and dime type stores. Very few were any good. JMHO of course.

These albums are worth something as fine examples of choppy steel playing.

I don't think that gal on the album cover really plays the uke. I think they just handed it to her for the picture. Look at that lack of right hand technique. And her left hand... you call that a chord? Image

Forget "choppy steel playing"... This ukulele "bait and switch" is serious stuff. I'm pissed! Who do I write?

I can't believe that the music industry would knowingly deceiving us in this way. I thought record producers were better than that. They care about music don't they? Image

Whoever told those jokers that Harbor lights and Red Sails In The Sunset were Hawaiian tunes?

Bill How can you say that . Next you will probably be telling us that the Platters were not native Hawaiians. My life is now shattered after all these yrs. CC
