I hardly even blame the makers & marketers of the product---it's what you expect of idiots and you see it every day. My focus is on the day that the Hendrix family won their fight for the legal rights to the Hendrix legacy. You could see right then that this kind of crap was inevitable. They seem like low-life losers intent on spending their lives as professional Hendrix heirs, exploiting the name any and every way they can (in the name of honoring and protecting his memory)--sort of like the Martin Luther King family et al. They deserve the attention in this (the Hendrix folks, not King) and I hope someone shines the light on them and reminds everyone that they are the good folks who are bringing us this fine fine product.

Who knows? Of course he hasn't been with us for a long time to be able to turn down an offer like this in person, so therein lies the tragedy-he wasn't given the option.

But the surviving members of Led Zeppelin agreed to having one of their songs used for Cadillac commercials, the auto brand that at one time was the ultimate symbol of "the establishment."

So apparently nothing is sacred.

The first time I saw one of those ads I was slightly shocked.

There's something about the linguistics of the ELECTRIC BABY CREEPER that kind of tickles me though - what will they think of next....

I have nothing but good things to say about Hendrix's half sister. She is doing a great job with the Hendrix legacy. Harley Davidson has had their own canned drink as has creem magazine etc. I would love to have a can of Hendrix pop and stick it on my music shelf. She got rid of Alan Dougles who was just destroying what anybody had access to for listening to. Jimi's half sister is the one who got an attorney and fought for her father so that he got what was his. Jimi's dad had been getting paid $20,000.00 plus a year for a long time out of South America. If it wasn't for her, Jimi's dad would have got ripped off till the day he died and much worse. She also saw that Buddy Miles and Billy Cox got monies for their recording efforts. "Low Lifers" no way... Jimi's burial plot is a frecking shrine now... All the live concert's that are available now for research is because of her.

It's nice to know that somebody is doing the right thing and not just exploiting the Hendrix name to make a buck. Thanks for telling us.

Dittos, Jesse.
Janie is doing about as well with Jimi's stuff as can be wished.
After all, Jimi was/is the ultimate 'pop' icon.

Assuming this info to be right, I stand corrected. I had been misinformed.

Jon, there was a half brother named Leon who tried to reverse the will because Al Hendrix wrote him out of it. Leon was closed out by the higher courts which I kinda feel sorry for him for because Jimi used to take care of him when they were young kids who apparently were left alone alot. Those were Al Hendrix's wishes and Janie seems to have honored his wishes to the best of her abilities. There were some illegal auctions awhile back and Janie got injuctions to stop the sell of Hendrix publishing rights and what not. I'm a huge Hendrix fan big time and play alot of his songs professionally and just for my own pleasure with friends.

Of course the real downside would be young people discovering what the "liquid experience" truly was.

History is made as the Hendrix Legacy continues ~
Leon Hendrix is now touring with his band, and has released a CD "The Keeper of the Flame." Ummm.

I had the great privlige to know Jimi and have had some ugly experiences dealing with the family regarding publishing my memoirs - not necessarily Janie but the lawyers that work for her. Let's just say they would rather re-write his biography to suit their marketing strategy. So something like this doesn't surprise me in the least.

Harley Davidson and Creem magazine are two business entities. You would expect them to have their own products like soda or whatever.
A soft drink named after a dead musician is a totally different thing and pretty reprehensible to most i would think.

Led Zeppelin and the Who turning up on Cadillac ads and CSI is different too. Not to mention those guys are still alive.

Dang, Leon looks way healthy, good to see that he is working it as a musician. I didn't know that Jimi had a son from Sweden either. I sent Leon an Email and asked him some pretty personal questions, so I won't be surprised if he doesn't respond. Thanks for the info...

Scott, given the fact that Jimi would sign his name to anything that would give him some money (which came back to haunt him repeatedly), I think he would of gone for it if he was alive. Also, without knowing where the profits are going if there are any, kinda makes it impossible for me to even argue about it completely. Heck, look at all the Kiss stuff you see around? All I see is it is keeping his name around, which I'm all for, whether it's soda pop or Leon keeping the flame going by being a working musician. Now if someone came out with some soda pop with the Pope on it...LOL?

mmmm... Pope Pop. good stuff!
that wouldn't bother me as much. there's more than one pope, and it would probably help the Vatican pay their legal bills... something to consider.
i just say there's a better way to remember this musical legend than giving him some energy drink which is just such a fad in itself.

and i hate to think of THESE DORKS making cash off Jimi's name.

having said that... I kind of want this incense burner:

I think it cheapens his name, but diapers with "Are You Experienced" tatooed across the behind aren't exactly uplifting either. But hey, this is America. Freedom isn't about being allowed to do "nice, enlightened" stuff, but being able to do "stupid, insensitive" stuff like this too. You see, those definitions are purely personal taste, too.

We ain't ever gonna know what Jimi woulda thought. :(

I went to the soda site and it looks like it's pretty fly by night? They say that a percentage of the future profits are going to go to a "Youth in music foundation", which would explain why Janie let them use the name. I couldn't find out what is in the drink or how much would go to the music foundation? One of the partners is a musician and guitar collecter and has 250 guitars, doesn't sound like a dork to me. I would still like to have a can just for the heck of it if it ever does come out. Coke and Pepsi will always be the kings of soda pop. I would really be surprised if this went anywhere in the end. Heck, I thought M. Jackson was supposed to be the King of pop anyways, lol. These guys have some video on their site of Hendrix with Buddy Miles doing a blues at an outdoor festival. Thanks for the link...

Who did the demographics?

So then, this drink will appeal primarily to middle-aged musicians and ex-druggies?
