3 steel players in one band!!!

I could not belive my eyes, a band with not one but 3 steel players, the sound was out of this world. They were playing parts together, playing back up for one another, fingers were just flying.

Larry Chung was on rythum guitar, Pat Ickes 5 string banjo and Todd Clinesmith on his self manufacturerd Dobro. All steelers, all members of the forum, and all in one California bay area bluegrass band (Born to Run) playing in Stevenson Washington this weekend. (Boy and you thought getting a steel job was bad they have gone to playing bluegrass, they are in the money now.) Hee Hee

Yeah Larry when you see something like that it will make you wonder if that ever goes wrong but it never does.
I did it once on a wedding in Holland when the bandleader had all the steel players that were with him for over 25 years on the same stage.And I can tell you that that was a very good thing.Never played so good like that night.Steelplayers just know when to fill in and when to back down.
I know where you are comin' from here.All I can say is.Just try it once yourself.You will love it.

The late Re Winkler would sometimes hire 3 steel players at once. But he told us to leave our steel guitars at home and play the lesser instruments.

Many years ago I did a BBC Radio session. We had three steels - BJ Cole, Gerry Hogan, and Yours Truly - and we did a bunch of Christmas Carols in front of a studio audience.

It was challenging.....

When we had Re's memorial get together/jam session, there must have been a dozen steel players there.

Years ago at the Tennessee Steel Guitar Club June Jam, Buddy Emmons played bass, Curly Chalker played guitar while Zane Beck played his BMI. One of those memories that stays.

Yeah, I think Bobby Flores has the steel position in his band pretty well covered! They are ALL top shelf players. And nice people, too!

Randy, that post was only to explain why in my earlier deleted posts I said, "so who were they?" I didn't get that they were already named, playing instruments other than steel. My "don't know them" comment was in no way intended as a slight on them, as if to say that since I don't know them, they're not important... only that since I didn't recognize the names (cuz I don't know them!) plus I hadn't been feeling well, I didn't get the joke of the post, being the they're steel players in the same band, but playing other instruments.
