It happens more often than you think. A lot of people post to the Forum while under the influence. We really don't need that here.b0b, why do you think that some of these comments sound "drunken"?

If the sponsor of this jam puts up with this crap I'd be gone like a choo-choo. I've been to these kind of jams before and I've been through some of this same childish behavior. Evidently most of you guys are still young cause I got all the butt kicking kicked out of me years ago. This thread sounds like a bunch of school yard kids.

The last time I got in a barroom fight was 19 years ago, when I was 33. I got some good shots in on the guy, but he took one of those solid glass ashtrays, broke my cheekbone with it, and after I was stunned from that blow, gave me 2 black eyes.
My buddy, who was about 5'9" and 225 at the time and the former star fullback of our high school team, lost it, went ballistic trying to get the guy, and ended up taking on the cops-for which he was of course arrested.
I was taken to the hospital later, and my pregnant wife came to pick me up. I don't think I have ever been so ashamed and embarrassed.
I relate the story only to point out that there is NOTHING GOOD that can ever come out of a bar fight, in particular if alcohol is invloved.
This sounds like a weird scene, Richard-and I don't know how much potential there is for ever talking any sense to this jerk.

I think first I'd just walk all over every one of his rides and even play what he's playing if you can. That ought to get his goat! Maybe put the bar just enough in the middle of the fret to really make your skin crawl! I'd talk with the other guys in the band and see just where they stand. It seems to me if he's that bad they'd tell him to stay home.

I think the band has only been aware of the problem for a couple of weeks. Some of the band likes him, some don't. My girlfriend is friends with the bandleader (I think he is ??)and has talked to him and he told her he would see what could be done. He wants me to stay. The other guitar player who may be the leader likes me too, but is best friends with the bass player who has been after my girlfriend for quite a while (before I ever went to the club). He is so jacked up that I was the one who won her heart that he won't even say Hi to her anymore. Oh Well.
David W. - Not sure if you know him and I will not mention his name.
Frank - Stepping all over his licks or playing what he is playing is not an option. I fortunately know when not to play and would have a hard time stepping on him. And playing the same licks -- There is no way I can play that bad, even if I played with my feet.

Quite frankly, I haven't been under the influence of anything, for a long, long time. My answer was in regards to someone who, haranges, gets in your face, or slanders you, repeatedly, to your friends, relatives, ex-wives, or jam mates. It wasn't meant to be an "end all- cure all" solution, just another way to make a beligerent idiot, back off and vacate the situation. Richard is grabbing at straws here for a solution to his dilemma. If I offended anyone, I'm sorry for that. Also, rest assured that, "I" NEVER post anything under the influence and NEVER will. My personal feeling is that, no one should be put in a situation that makes them "that" uncomfortable. And, if there's no other recourse than to rattle his cage, then, by all means, do so. Obviously, nobody has done it in the past, and that's why he continues to walk all over people.

I'm just wondering how you know that, b0b. Are you looking in their windows while they're posting, or is that more accurately your unfounded suspicion? I suppose you now will say that I'm posting while drunk? Definitely not, but how can that be proved to you? And what evidence do you have of your accusation against these fellow forumites? A lot of people post to the Forum while under the influence.
Someone posts something you don't like, so you publicly say here that they're drunks?
This may be your house, but unsubstantiated accusations such as drunken postings still are not right. I'm pretty sure you're not including me in that accusation, it's still insulting and wrong.

If you really think that nobody posts on the Forum while drinking, you have another think coming. I often get apologies from people in email for posts they made while drunk. Often people jump to conclusions because their reading skills are alcohol-impaired.
I'm not saying that all poor judgement comes from drinking. I'm just saying that people are more likely to do something they'll later regret if they've been drinking, and that includes posting on the Internet.
You appear to be offended by statements of fact. I have no idea why anyone would find my soberiety request offensive in a topic that, in my opinion, calls for level-headed responses.
I didn't accuse anyone of anything. I just asked that people withhold their drunken responses. Why is that offensive?

It sure is a drag when you sober up the next morning, limp over to your computer, rub your eyes and click on the forum to find you posted that picture of yourself in drag by mistake instead of the picture of the new Rains you just bought. Man if I had a dime for everytime thats happened to me.....

Guys, about twelve years ago, I accidentally broke a bone in my right hand. The good ol' US Navy did a great job of setting it, but, after the bone healed there were the weeks of "the rubber ball", "the hot wax", and the aggravation of not having the normal use of that hand for a long time getting it back in shape; just my contribution here.

OK, you gave some valid reasons for suspecting and even knowing that some people do post while drinking. The fact that you've had phone conversations and even emails from people confessing, is proof enough. You didn't mention this before did you? I also never said or implied I didn't believe anyone posts while drinking. Of course I'm sure some do.
Maybe you should have included drugs too? I'm sure that would be just as applicable?
You've got to be kidding. That's still a stupid question. "Offended by statements of fact"....? If you can't see how your "please withold drunken responses" is insulting, you spend too much time programming computers.I just asked that people withhold their drunken responses. Why is that offensive?

I thought the purpose of this thread was to help Richard sort out his dilemma
I agree with others who have suggested finding another hangout. Is this an option?
If it's the only opportunity in town, maybe you need to move to a larger town.

I'd drive an hour further to find a gig that made me smile rather than settling for one that makes me frown.

That's kinda the way I feel. If the owner/manager, other band members, or some of the customers aren't on your side (seeing this situation for what it is and coming to your aid), the whole thing sounds bizarre, kinda like you don't have many friends there. If the sponsor of this jam puts up with this crap I'd be gone like a choo-choo.
At any rate, I'd say talk to the police, and have it on record that you tried to settle things the right way. Then if anything else should happen down the road, you've got someone (with a badge) on your side!
Yes, it'll probably take time and effort to get the whole situation straightened out, but so did learning to play pedal steel. Nothing good comes easy. Hang in there!

If so, then politely (as you're a class act)ask the band to decide and let you know of its decision to either fish or cut bait. The band really prefers my playing and asks me to come every week.
