Maybe it's just me, but I think the PSG is just about the best instrument in the whole world to kick off a country song! Here are some of my favorites:
"Rainy Day Woman" by Waylon Jennings (Ralph Mooney)
"Night Life" by Ray Price (Buddy Emmons)
"Different Kind of Flower" by Ray Price (Buddy Emmons)
Anyone else have some favorites they would like to share?
Teach Your Children
Highway 40 Blues
You've got a Lover
Silver Threads Golden Needles
Pride of Cucamonga
Panama Red
Dire Wolf
Someday Soon
a bunch more....

"Jukebox Charlie" (Lloyd Green) Paycheck
"In The Jailhouse Now" (Buddy Charlton) Tubb
"Another Story" (Buddy Charlton) Tubb
"How Much More Can She Stand" (John Hughey) Twitty
"Houston" (Buddy Emmons) Gatlins
One of my all-time favorite's is Ralph Mooney on the intro to "Under Your Spell Again". It is just so smoooooth and he blends the open strings just perfect.
Hi Bob! been a long time since, the good old days in Eau Claire, Wi. as far as intros, heres my choice, "Ones on the way" {I dare anyone to try that one] "Dont come home a drinkin" "Touch my heart" "When the tingle becomes a chill" "Half a mind" "Holding things together" Bob! let me know when you get these ones down? Shucks, you probably do! Your old friend! Al Udeen
I`ll come running.
Overnight male.
Touch my heart.
Look at us.
I`m so ashamed..(on the Luck label)
All my Ex`s live in Texas.
and at least a couple hundred more
"Look At Us" that John Hughey played. In fact I do not believe I have heard a bad kickoff by John Hughey. Also "Coal Miners Daughter" that Hal Rugg played on. I am a huge Buddy Emmons fan and have heard many great kickoffs that he has recorded. Also a song called "Standing Room Only" that Barbara Mandrell sang. The steel player was John Hughey if my memory serves me correctly.
LLoyd Green's intro to "This is The Shortest Song in the World"..Plus all the others mentioned above. lol....especially the ones by Curly. And Jerry Byrd on "Next to Jimmy".
Buddy Emmons on John Sebastian's "Rainbows All Over Your Blues"
Buddy Emmons on Gram Parsons' "That's All It Took"
Lloyd Green on The Byrds' "Hickory Wind"
JayDee Maness on Desert Rose' "Once More"
Just about every other intro JayDee ever played
Weldon Myrick on Merle Haggard's "Emptiest Arms in the World"
Tom Brumley's "Together Again"
Jerry Garcia's "Dire Wolf"
And who was it played with Conway Twitty on "Our Last Date" -- anyway, THAT one for sure,
"Husband hunting"-(Lynn Anderson) Lloyd Green
"I'd run a mile to you"
"Fool me"
"The worst is yet to come"
For a minute there -("on the road with Loretta Lynn and the Coalminers" album) Bob Hempker (I know this one is a little obscure, but it puts chills down my back every time I hear it.)
Plus all the intros already menitoned.
Hi Paul. I stand corrected. I was informed by someone on the forum years ago that it was Lloyd, please excuse me for not checking that out. We used to use that song for a break song down in Key West. Enjoyed seeing and hearing you in Dallas. Great job. Keep up the good work.
Yes, Dave Grafe, I agree with you about Jaydee Maness' intros: I had a Tony Booth LP with each song, I believe, kicked off with smooth and intelligent steel.
Emmons' intro to Different Kind of Flower is a standout, but heck, all of his are!

The first song that came to mind was Touch My Heart Ray Price and Buddy Emmons. The unison lick is a classic. It is simple but the emotion that Buddy has is unsurpassed on this tune
John Poson, I'm pretty sure that Weldon Myrick played on "Wild Weekend".
Dave Grafe, Tom Brumley didn't play an intro on "Together Again" just a magnificent solo that will stand the test of time forever. Buck Owens started the song cold.
There are so many intros that I love I can't say I have a favorite.
