How many Licensed to carry Steelers?

Post by Rick Garrett »

I know a bunch of you guys play in some shady parts of town and was wondering how many steelers are licensed to "tote" or carry firearms?

Personally speaking, I've always carried for protection. Never had a problem though and I'm thankful for that but these days I think it pays to carry protection of some kind.

I've never had a problem or reason to carry firearms to gigs. I just play their requests and make sure there's a back door nearby if I screw up!

I've had the license for about 8 years. I don't make it a habit to carry on the bandstand but I do deliveries late nights and always have it then. If I feel threatened that much in a bar I play, I won't go back. Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it!

If ever there was a place to have one, it's the place I'm playing at tonight!
Usually it's the other band members that I'm afraid of. Image

This is ridiculous. I have picked in Philly, NYC, Buffalo, Milwaukee, Chicago, Macon, Savannah, Miami et al. Some of these places make Tyler look like a rose garden. Click here. I have never thought of toting a gun to a gig. I am proud to live in Texas for the past 20 years, but the net result of handguns make my day gig suck.

I've never felt the need but I don't have anything against guns. Jon... Are you on staff in the BCS area? I'm out at the Hearne-St Joseph Clinic. I used to be over at the S&W Urgent Care in CS. We've had a few GSW there.

I worked a six-night a week gig at a club in Bossier City back the 70's. I found out later that I was the only member of the band that was not armed. A few years earlier, some of the members of this band was playing another club down the road. Their drummer was shot and killed in the parking lot on break. They told me that the club owner got extremely agitated when they refused to finish up the night without their drummer, and friend.
Anyway, I'm sure that experience made them, shall we say, "careful".

Ken

From what I understand, you don't need a permit to carry one here in Mississippi in your vehicle, but obviously you do need one to carry it concealed on your person. Only thing is, if you look at the list of places where you're not allowed to carry it in, MANY of those places are the very place you'd most likely need it! Go figger... Image

I packed a little something when I was working the Casinos in Nevada - legally of course - and on certain gigs in California.Mostly it's not the actual gigs but traveling to and fro, especially cross country there's always something on board the bus. Of course I tote a Colt 45 all day long on the set of "Deadwood" but that don't really count. Image

Michael: You tote' a colt 45 all day long in Deadwood, but whats in that holster?

I've had a pistol permit since 1967. It resides in a locked area, unloaded, with the shells placed somewhere else.

Yeh,
Licensed to carry concealed, but not in a place that serves booze. That will land the law abiding pistol-packer in the slammer.
Many restrictions on where one may not carry.

The best part of this law is that, you don't know who is packing. I know some sweet granny's with something in their purse other than a cell phone.

SIG 229 and a Glock "3-finger". Licensed yes; CCW, not in LA. After being on the recieving end of an attempted car-jacking, about 14 years ago, where my girlfriend was stabbed in the face..... Fortunately, I had a lot of adrenalin working for me that evening.
