Gene:

Thanks for reviving this 6-month-old thread. I had just joined the Forum about the time Jody originally posted it -- and I was on vacation when you bumped it several days ago, so I just now stumbled across it.

It appears that I joined Fender shortly after Jody left, so our paths had never crossed until I discovered the Forum. Jody has come to be a friend to me in the short time since I met him on the forum, and he is well deserving of everything posted above.

Jody, I enjoy your posts as well as the emails we have swapped and the telephone conversations we have had. I'm sorry I have never had a chance to meet you face-to-face, although I had been worried that if we ever met I would find that you were more handsome than me. Of course, that fear dissolved immediately when you emailed me your photo. (How can someone as ugly as you play such great steel and be married to such a beauty?)

Your-somewhat-older-but-considerably-more-good-looking friend,

Roy

I resigned from CBS Fender. They told me you were coming aboard and they couldn't find it in their best conscience to keep both of us.

The truth of the matter is,,they couldnt afford the money so one of us had to leave.

I got tired of working for $2.99 an hour so they brought you in at a cheaper price Image

Jody:

I read your above response about 11:00 p.m. (Eastern)last night, just before I went to bed. I tossed and turned until 3:00 a.m. this morning thinking about that Fender salary thing. I was so angry I just couldn't sleep, so I got up to respond. (If you don't believe me, check the Pacific time at the top of this post.) Those liars told me that at $2.98 per hour I was the highest paid guy they had ever hired. (By the way, did they give you the $10,000 per month expense account like I got?)

I'm trying to think of something funny Image

Nick what happened to Martin and Lewis or are you too old to remember them?? Image

I'll think of something Ayres. You were always the favorite, just because you played with Pee Wee King. Big recording star BIG DEAL. And all you played was two chords.

I'll be back I have to call my writer.

I'll get your AYRES Image

That’s three chords: A, E, and the one that I plug in my steel!

I may be off line for a few days because I just got a special assignment. Some big-time comedy writer from New York called me and wants me to write some funny material for a client of his up North. I think his client works in a meat market, because the writer mentioned something about him being a “Carver.”

FOLKS
I WANTED TO REVIVE THIS FOR A SPECIAL FRIEND
AND A SPECIAL HUMAN BEING WHO I HAVE LOVED SINCE I WAS A YOUNGSTER.

HIS HEART IS AS BIG AS THE MOON AND MADE OF GOLD. I THINK THAT SINCE THAT TIME OF YEAR IS ALMOST UPON US,I FELT THAT THOSE WHO HAVE
NEVER READ THIS,DO SO.

HE AND HIS WIFE ARE GOING THROUGH TRYING TIMES AND I WANTED TO PAY A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT HE HAS GIVEN TO ME OVER THE YEARS.

RESPECT AND CARING FOR OTHERS. I CANT WRITE AS HE CAN,BUT I CAN ADD THIS TO ALL OF YOU WHO MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE.
HE HAS OFTEN SAID TO ME,PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY
HAVE CONNECTIONS,PERHAPS TO GET A GOOD DEAL ON BUYING A CAR OR A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT AND THEY OFTEN TOLD ME THAT THOSE PEOPLE SAID WHEN YOU FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN GET YOU A DEAL
STAY CLOSE TO THOSE WHO CAN.

HIS WORDS WERE TO ME AND I WANT TO PASS THEM ON TO YOU. STAY CLOSE TO GOD,THAT IS THE BEST
DEAL OF ALL AND WILL GIVE YOU THE BEST DEAL & MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS WORLD. THANK YOU.
PLEASE WISH HIM AND HIS WIFE WELL.THIS IS THE FINEST HUMAN BEING I HAVE EVER KNOWN AND MY RESPECT AND LOVE FOR HIM AND HIS WIFE GROWS MORE EVERY DAY. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU HE CALLS HIS FRIENDS.
AND GOD BLESS JODY CARVER AND MARILYN CARVER.

Hey Jody,
Guess I'll have to keep Roy in line down here for you.
You just keep writing your thoughts.
They are very refreshing and an added plus to this Forum. No one plays "Limehouse Blues" like you do.
Your Pal,
Don

As I get more aged, I have "flash backs" at an increasing rate. I seem to recall as a kid, before I really knew what a steel guitar was, some guy playing "LOVER".....possibly the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts.

Was this per chance you my friend?

MR.MONTEE
YES THAT WAS JODY. HE DID MANY SHOWS WITH ARTHUR GODFREY AND AT THAT TIME I WASN'T EVEN BORN BUT MY DAD PLAYED TROMBONE WITH THE
CBS ORCHESTRA AND ACCORDING TO MY DAD. THE NIGHT JODY PLAYED CARAVAN AND RAISED THE ROOF OFF THE ED SULLIVAN CBS THEATRE,THE ENTIRE ORCHESTRA STOOD AND GAVE MY FRIEND A STANDING OVATION,THAT WAS THE FIRST AND LAST TIME THAT EVER HAPPENED. I WAS BORN IN 1956 AND WAS TOO YOUNG,BUT I HAVE HEARD WHAT MY DAD TOLD ME ABOUT THAT NIGHT IN 1955.

JODY IS PREPARING A CD OF A FEW GODFREY SHOWS
AND IT WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON.

I'LL SAY HI TO JODY FOR ALL OF YOU.

THANK YOU
GREG SULLIVAN

Jody is the greatest. Those two tunes "Lover" and "Caravan" were very exciting tunes to play on a double or triple neck. I'd like to hear that record....al Image Image

Please don't post IN ALL CAPS, GREG.

It's hard to read, and people think you're SHOUTING.

Thanks.

Greg, please don't be defeated about the CAPS thing....it was only constructive criticism to advise you of the rules of the Forum.

You are to be commended for spotlighting the many achievements of the great JODY CARVER, who has been unrecognized for his efforts in promoting the steel-guitar for much too long.

My greatest respect to Jody Carver, and to Gregg, for keeping Jody's name in the forefront!

Jody, God bless you and your wife and family. Whatever anyone wants to call you be it "cornball" or whatever, just pay attention to the ones that call you "friend." You call me 'cornbal' if it will make you my friend.

Jody, I've known you for a relatively short period of time and I value your knowledge and experiences in the music business. I can tell that you are good person and don't consider straying away from the Forum. I'll see you at the next steel show.
