Review This!
Here’s your chance to let me have it!
I’ve got my box of Kleenex standing by!
cutting room floor 1.7Meg
Ok, this was recorded onto a VS 880 in the living room. Robyn played the Triton using the sequencer.
This was made up on the fly, no rehearsal. She called chords as we played. You'll notice I'm frequently lagging behind the downbeat for this reason.
AND, it was done in one take (the FIRST take)! I hated it when I first heard it and told her to delete it but she didn't. When I heard it a couple months later, I was glad she didn't.
I know what MY critique of it is; what’s yours?

Marty, I'm very happy to see that you are the caliber of player you are, Your tone needs help, but that's ok, I think you wanted honesty, so now that you know I'm not "leg humping" , I'll tell you, yes, I really think you play wonderfully but the best thing is , now that we all know you can play, you have much added credibility to statements you have made in the past. You will have more folks taking you seriously, I hate that since it is your weird sense of humor that I really liked the most.
I have found out that many folks that post here can't play at all and have no idea what steel guitar is even about. But they love to argue with me and other players. They love to argue and try to make others think they are steel players, but they aren't. I have quit arguing with these guys untill I know if they are actual players or just argumentitive steel fans. Now I know I can argue with you , because I know you are a player and know what you are talking about!(you might even win!) I say this with tremendous respect. I liked your twisted sense of humor before I knew you could play, so you know I really like you now, But your tone still needs help. Forget what the amatures say.
I hear you are 6'5" tall and strong enough to whip Hulk Hogan soundly, But I also hear you are a great guy and are that way untill someone hacks you off, Lloyd Green and John Fabian like you, that's good enough for me. There is nothing wrong with your playing that Lloyd , John and I can't fix. ( for a few thousand dollars, cash, up front, unmarked small denomination bills, brown paper bag, midnite, the graveyard, downtown Grapevine Texas, come alone.)
Seriously marty, I'm proud to know a wierdo like you, we may have a lot in common.

Well Marty......"It's a little loud; BUT, your Tone sucks"....ah...ha
------------------------------
I just love that answer....LOL.....I asked a big time guitar player the question of how does it sound and he gave me that reply and I fell off my pack-a-seat laughin'....ha.
.....but seriously.....Nice Job young man....Sounds cool.
Oh and you can use that opening statement anytime you want; next time someone asks how "They" sound....It's a universal reply/joke...ha.

Well MP now you've gone and done it...I just hate it when politicians actually know what they are talking about. It makes the rest of us who like to argue with them feel very foolish.
It will now takes years, maybe decades for you to erase your credibility, are you aware of what you have done here ? We may all have to wait for the next generation of MP's to arrive on the forum before we can challenge the credibility of an "MP" again..!
Nice track and nice playing..how about some more ?

CANDOR???
Where, may I ask, will you ever find someone more candid than I?
I don't recall you and I ever crossing swords, Tim. Have I forgotten something?
If your comment is just about me defending myself against attacks then you may as well reconcile yourself to it cuz it ain't stoppin'.
I promise, on my next recording, to try to play with less arrogance and more tact and consideration.
Bob, you've got the idea! I won't even disagree w/you. I will say, though, that I find it difficult to put much 'soul' into techno. My biggest influence is ABBA!
Frank, Frank, Frank...
Doesn't the dirt on your tongue ever bother you?

Marty........at least you CAN play the steel guitar. For originality........I'll give you a 9.8. For tone (a little thin...) you get a 7.2. For overall balance...8.5. For technique.....9.2. Now for what some call "personality" and/or "sense of humor"......you still "SUCK!" I'm sure you're truly a nice person, but YOUR CHOICE of words here on the Forum tend to paint you as a real loser and insecure dunce. If you'd work on this apparent insecurity that presents itself to others as a form of aggressive hostility.........you'd likely be the kind of steel player I'd enjoy knowing.....like most of the "other Forumites" that contribute on a regular basis without feeling any need for hostility and personal insults just because they might have a different viewpoint. Nuff said. You'll either get it....or you won't. Good Luck to you. Let's hear more of your fine playing.

Sounds like a bunch of licks strung together to me. If you view the steel guitar as a "country sound effects device", then you have reached your objective. Any resemblence to actual music is entirely coincidental.
Hey, you asked.

Wow..... you've been listening to way too much Mark Knopfler. Not that it's bad or sucks (well not, much anyway
) but as a staunch defender of "Life, Liberty, and the American Shuffle", it rates a dismal "3" on my "Shufflometer". Of course, who am I to offer such a harsh criticism? I can't play my way out of a wet paper sack..... kinda wierd analogy, but then, I myself am a tad twisted.
(actually, in a perverse way, I kinda enjoyed it... sorta like standing around at the scene of an accident
)
The preceeding statements are my opinions. I have many opinions. I am happy to share them. Please send a self addressed, stamped envelope to 1325, Insipid Way, Bluster, Tx. 76629

Marty
All of the posts I have read proved to me how kind and understanding these fellows are.
Ray Montee is one of my favorite people as well as Ricky. I classify each of these people are being the eptiome of class.
Their comments were positive regarding your
playing,,they showed no disrepect as you do to others. I think that should tell you something.
I do beleive I know what your problem is.....
It may go back many years,,instead of someone
using Johnson's Baby Powder on your "butt"
someone more than liklely used AJAX,,the foaming cleanser,,,and you must have had a
"rough" time growing up. Marty you dont need Kleenex,,,,you need Charmin,,but please dont
SQUEEZE IT..Oh how sweet it is. I feel another "lockup" by the Sherrif coming on this one. Here comes the posse..bang bang.
gotcha,,,you bad boy you.

...and because you don't sound like the majority is the reason I like your tone, it's different. "Different" has paid many a bill in my household.
Using the A ped. in the 12th meas. from your entrance didn't work, as the 5(7th) chord could've better taken a #5 or b9 , & if you faked a half stop (or slide 5 & 6 up a fret then down, no ped), you'd have a #5 instead of a 6th which rubs. There's my critique. But 1st take, seat of your pants; good job.
[This message was edited by Rex Thomas on 03 October 2002 at 12:40 PM.]

Marty
Since all of my posts are long,I wanted to post this. To get serious for a moment,,I have read some of your posts and wondered
"why".?????????
I know you are not a mean person,,,there is a lot of good in you I know that. You play well so far as what I have heard, you have a wife and children,,,,do you not want them to
be proud of you?.
I have said this to you before,,there is more
to life than insults to and from people.I do
feel in my heart that underneath that "facade
of being the bad guy lies a good person.
I hope and pray that you never have the problems that face each and everyone of us as
I do at this very moment, you have your health
you play well and have a nice family..in that
you are a rich man...dont lose that,,there are people on here who have been insulted and
appalled by some of the things you posted.
But somehow I know there is good in you.Im not being funny Marty,,but I will say a prayer for you and your family.
Bobbe said nice things about your playing,as did Ricky Davis and Ray Montee and you couldnt find three nicer people than those three people. And you can add Bobbe to that list of good people and a great musician as
well......they are on your side,,dont back away, let them in.
Lighten up..its not the end of the world,,Im
pulling for you,,,,life is short,,Im watching
as my wife struggles for every breath she takes...Only God can help us now,,live your
life because its the only one you will have and make it the best you can for your sake as
well as your family.
I was only kidding with you..but PLEASE try to understand,,,,there are people on this Forum who have a heart and understanding...I
found that out a long time ago.
You play very well,,I think I could like you
in fact ,,I do..guitar sounds good....what brand is it? Be well and good health to you and your's....and excuse me for injecting some of the comments I made,,it was all in fun. My very best to you.
