Just Got my new Harmos Americana

Post by Bill McCloskey »

All I can say is ...WOW.

This thing is amazing. It puts my other Lap Steels to shame.

Now, I just have to get good on it.

On lap steel I started on one of those new Gretch 6 strings. Then I got a Georgeboards 8 string console. On the acoustic side, I have a Beard MA 6, Dobro 60-D, an National Steel Tricone, a 1935 Regal, and a Lazy River Weissenborn.

I played a Harmos for about 30 minutes at ISGC, and loved it,
a very cool unit,.

You must be in hog heaven right now.

I want an 8 string with a dance frame and strap

Cool.

How did you choose the model? I've spent time at the Harmos site getting hopelessly turned around as to which guitar I would get if I were in the getting mode.

The Americana with its two pickups just seemed right to me.

As I understood the differences,
it is mostly about the pickup winding style,
they do change the end plate colors etc.

There are differences in number of strings of course.
Basically read the tone choice info,
and that gives you the idea of what a model will play like.
I thought it was a great sounding and playing lapsteel.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 11 February 2005 at 11:36 PM.]</p></FONT>

How is the Harmos when you're playing at the first fret? Does it ever feel like your hand is unsupported and floating out in space? I've been wanting to try one of these for a long time but haven't had the opportunity yet.

Andy,

I haven't noticed any problem like that. First fret seems fine to me.

BTW, got your book last week. Could'n't put it down.

Lucky feller.

I bet Reece sounded great on that.
I think that's the one I played on.
