International Phone Connection

Post by Roger Shackelton »

Is it possible to connect my computer to a cell phone in a foreign country and talk to the other party via my computer?

Do I need some special software?

I am not sure on this, but wouldn't you need a cell phone that has "world" access. If I remember correct, that is a little expensive. I am not really sure on this, maybe some other forumites could help.

No, I don't believe you'd need 'world' access on the local 'phone, whether cellular or other. I'm definitely NOT an expert, though. Generally, with certain software, you connect to an internet site and, through it, connect to the target. That means there must be a 'phone which is local on the recieving end and a scheduled time preset for the two parties to communicate.

There are many commercial and freeware applications available. Some of the Windows app's included in newer versions might also be able to accomplish the task. A few years ago, I had something called PowWow (free at the time) and I think currently MediaRing Talk and NetPhone might work. --Everett
