Slow Processing of Wav files

I'm using the Nero tools to record WAV files
from cassettes and LPs for transfer to CD.
There is no real problem, except when
I record an album side or something of similar length. (with the intention of cutting into smaller files) My computer is a Pentium 2 @600 mhz w/320 MB RAM and the processing is *EXTREMELY* slow. I know this is very intensive computing, but hoped it would work. Is it possible my computer is not set-up optimally, or would that be normal for my machine's processor? Hard to gauge this...thanks, Joel
