Voice-based email?

Post by Jim Cohen »

Do any of you know of any email providers that offer voice-based email, as does AOL?

The only reason I stay with AOL is because they have an add-on service whereby I can call an 800 # from any phone in the USA and a synthesized voice will read me my email and allow me to record a brief (30-60 second) wav file that it will send back in reply. This is very helpful when I travel and can't hook up my laptop, or when I just need to check quickly if I've heard back from somebody yet, etc.

Anyway, I'd love to find another company that provides this valuable service, so I can finally dump AOL. Any one know of any?

Thanks,
jc

Jim,

It's not a service that I have personally used but have a look at their web Site:

Access to E-mail
In conjunction with USA.NET's reliable, patent-pending mail engine architecture, the new enhancements to NetAddress 3.0 will enable subscribers to forward their e-mail to a voice-mail system where messages are read by a computer synthesizer . By calling a 1-800 number and using touch tone dialing, NetAddress 3.0 subscribers can access their e-mail messages with a special PIN number. Users can then choose to hear their complete messages, subject or sender. Users can also reply via a recorded voice message that can be listened to by the recipient's e-mail software or the NetAddress web site.

Helping Subscribers Manage Communications More Effectively
In addition to e-mail-to-voice capability, NetAddress 3.0 subscribers will have access to a comprehensive suite of personal communications services including mobile communications, integrated messaging and Internet-related services:
