keyboard volume control not working

Post by Andy Volk »

I have an HP Pavilion with an HP keyboard that has a mute button and radio-style volume control knob. Since I installed the latest version of IE last week the volume control and mute won't work. I ran Scandisk, Defrag, McAfee, Ad-Aware, emptied my temp diretories and re-installed Real Player. Anyone have any other ideas? Is this a device controler issue? Thanks.

Andy,

Check out the device manager settings and see if you have any yellow question marks in the 'keyboard' section. You may have a corrupt driver for your keyboard.

Andy - Do you have a Soundblaster or similar soundcard that you have added? If so, you might check the Preferences there.

When Windows boots up, there's a little speaker symbol, right click on this and it will show your sound settings. Maybe it got set to mute along the way.

Think I found the problem. HP's keyboard manager software won't load - may be corrupt.

Kenny:
It maybe got squeezed off the task bar.
Put your arrow on the task bar and see if you can move the border over. If the task bar doesn't have room, it won't show it. Image

Erv,I had some computer problems a while back and when i got it "Fixed" Image, the sound is no longer on my keyboard and the speaker icon is not on the taskbar, also it will not go on "stand-by".
Most of these tech's around here are like the "Bubba's" on a used car.
