Sound problem with Win2K Pro
I just finished building my system and got Win2K Pro installed and I have noticed a problem with the system sounds: I can't hear any!
I know the case speaker works because I hear the BIOS beeps, and a temperature monitoring utility will also output sounds.
The motherboard has an on-board 6 channel sound chip. In the Win2K Pro "Sounds and Multimedia" control panel, that device is selected as the "Preferred Device" in the Sound Playback field; there is no other option in the drop-down menu.
I don't have a speaker system installed yet. Could this be why I don't hear the system sounds from the case speaker?
Also, is there any way to set it up to get the system sounds through the case speaker as well as the sound card/chip?
Thanks!

Mark,
Hey buddy...I am almost positive that Win2K pro does not emit any sound other than BIOS beep sequence through the case speaker.
For giggles I just unplugged my speakers and did a reboot and nothing.
If you have a sound card, just plug the speakers into that.
Let me know if you need any more help.

Thanks, somehow I knew you would respond!
I suspected that was the issue. Just haven't gotten around to ordering the speakers yet...
Building this computer really has been a good way to learn more. Can't wait to get into installing and configuring Red Hat Linux for my dual boot scenario!
Thanks again!
