tape to HD

Post by Doug Seymour »

Hi, am I dreaming or do I recall this winter a post mentioning a software that would separate tunes on a tape into separate
wav files on a HD without having to do them individually??? Just play the tape & record it more or less unattended??

I use a little program called CDWav. That is it's only function and it works great. With it you can take one big wav file and split it up into individual tracks. It works great for live stuff too. Flawless transitions from one track to the next.

Doug, There are many audio programs that will split files into tracks. Most that I have tried use an 'auto-split' where the program searches for silence and splits the file there. If there are false splits, you have to re-set the search parameters. The program I keep coming back to is "Polderbits Sound Recorder and Editor". It does have auto split, but also has a manual split that is even simpler to use. It has a FULL function 14 day trial, and is only $12 to buy. http://www.polderbits.com/
You might also look here, as I have some pretty basic instructions for what you are doing. http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/tommymc3/LPtoCDR.html
I haven't tried CDWav, so can't comment on it. Dart CD Recorder and AudioCompanion also come to mind as other recorders with auto-split, but as I said, I keep coming back to Polderbits. Hope this helps....
