Tape to Disk

Post by Bob Hayes »

Ok Jack...I know that THIS IS THE HOME OF THE EXPERTS...My question..(and you've got to realize that I'm not in the same league as some of you guys (and Gals) in smarts and finacial Holdings..That is ..I'm operating on a SHOE STRING,, here goes......
I want to take some of my tapes ( either commercial or somthing that I've recorded) and burn it on CD. Do I need a special program to go into audio in ..in the computer?..how does it save if it is not a digital Tape..only an analog or whatever you call it. I think that after i get the sound or signal into the computer and changed into data..I can burn it with no prblem..'cause I've already burned Midi and Saved songs off of CDs and burned them.
Is it posible?....The other thing is ..what do I need to record ( or process instruments bass, lead guitar key board, steel) into the computer.
I have a AMD 750mh/40GIG HD 56Kmem Win 98
CDWR...sound package......
Thanks for any help.

Bob, if you are retired AF you can't do it. Forget it. (Ha Ha).

If you do a search in this section you'll find this same question has been answered several times.

My suggestion is to get Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, if you don't have it (or the older Adaptec Easy CD Creator). It has the software in it to allow you to "record" from any external audio input source. You use the stereo "Line In" on your sound card (or on the mother board depending on the particular machine). You need to "record" (store) the songs on the hard drive and then when you have got what you want for a CD you can do the CD Burn operations. You can burn directly to CD but that is not recommended as anything that goes wrong, the CD-R blank is useless (becomes a "coaster").

Bob, I have a webpage on this topic you might care to explore. http://angelfire.lycos.com/vt2/tommymc3
Also, I have not tried Roxio EZ CD Creator, so I don't know it compares, but I have just installed a trial of Nero Burning ROM, and I am impressed with all it will do. The latest version comes with a sound recorder and editor. The editor has neat features like echo, chorus, flange, EQ, filters, etc. It also has a feature where you can change play speed without changing pitch, or change pitch without changing speed.

I (and a couple of friends) have tried some other s/w and the Roxio seems to be the most complete burning package and the s/w that most other burning s/w compares themselves to.

All CD burning software will "burn". I guess a lot of it is how "user friendly" the software is and how complete a solution the package is.

And finally personal preference.
