Engine failure

Post by Joe Delaronde »

This is a computer related question! (this time!)
I Uninstalled Easy CD Creator #4 and installed the #5 platinum version.
Worked good for a while. However, after uninstalling some programs to clean up my drive, the #5 will no longer recognize my burner. I get this message;

"Engine initialization has failed. Engine was not installed"

I uninstalled & reinstalled CD Creator 5 with same negative results. I reinstall the Sony CRX160E CD drivers, and still nothing.

I can read & write to the burner while using it as a floppy, but it will not work using Easy CD Creator #5.

I ran Norton's Disk Doctor and it found no errors.

Thanks

Joe,

What OS are you running?

Roxio has come out with many patches or fixes for this product. Depending on your OS, you may have to install a patch from their website. I had difficulty with their Platinum 5 product until I went to their website and updated the software.

The Roxio V5.02 update may fix your problems. However, I've seen several comments from people here on the forum about having problems with Sony drives and Adaptec/Roxio software conflicts.

When you uninstalled V5 you must not have uninstalled everything. If you used the add/remove programs many times Uninstallshield will report there was files or folders that were not removed. You have to manually remove the files or they could interfere with a reinstall.

Joe,

OK I have done some research on the Roxio website and they seem to believe that if you get "Engine Failure" errors you should install Easy CD Creator again, but don't uninstall the version, do a install right over the bad one.

They also recommend having Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher. They way to find out what version you have is to open Internet Explorer and then go to the "help" menu and scroll down to "About Internet Explorer".

Hope this helps and keep us posted!

Mark
