Need assistance!!

Post by Reece Anderson »

I am experiencing a problem when trying to click on the envelopes on the forum to send an email. I continually receive the message "illegal operation" and I must again re-enter the forum. I have the Norton protection system which detects no virus, although Bob says I possibly do have one.

Any comments or suggestions for a remedy would be appreciated.

If the envelope is displayed on the person's post then [their email address] should be visible in their profile. Try clicking the email link in the "profile". If that doesn't work then copy and paste the address into your email program.
[This message was edited by erik on 19 December 2001 at 03:12 PM.]

Reese, when you click on an envelope, another screen should come up. It sounds like something is set to not allow additional screens or popups.

If you are using Internet Explorer, click on TOOLS at the top of the IE screen and then click on INTERNET OPTIONS. Then click on the ADVANCED TAB and then click RESTORE DEFAULTS, then click APPLY. Then exit Internet Explorer, restart it and access the Forum and see if it works.

If you're using Netscape I'm like Schultz, "I know nothing".

Hi Carroll......Herbster and a man named George are alike in that they "cannot tell a lie". I look forward to seeing you on the front row at the TSGA.

Hello Mr. Anderson. A real pleasure speaking to you.

This may be way out there. From what I understand of your problem, it is only on the forum, and only when you click on the envelope, right? Email works ok otherwise?

A while back, I had a popup stopper program running, and it made my computer do that. See, when you click on the envelope on the forum, it loads another page, that has the actual email link on it. The envelope isn't a link to email itself. If you aren't getting to that second page, you can pretty well rule out the email application. My popup stopper program was seeing that page, as a popup, and trying to stop it from comming up. Then I got the illegal operation.

Curious if you have anything like that running? Or any kind of firewall program, or anything that would misinterpret that popup page to the email link.

I know this is way out there, but thought I would mention it, just in case.

Curious also, if you are using Internet Explorer, what version you have. Lot of bugs in versions 5.0 and 5.1 particularly in the security areas. Perhaps downloading the free upgrade to 6.0 would make the problem go away.

Again, a real honor speaking to you. Very sorry to hear of your personal problem. God's strength to you and your family.

Hi Reece, if the problem is in fact caused by the opening of another window, here's a trick that I do a lot. Simply click and hold on the envelope, then drag it up to the Address field at the top of your browser, and release the button. That will take you to the new page without opening a new window. When you're done you can click the Back button to take you to the previous page.

Reece, tell us what solved it. Inquiring minds (or what's left of them) would like to know.
