Email Not Working, Help Please

Post by steve takacs »

For the past five days I have been unable to receive or send any email. When I try to send I get "Sending email failed". I have no problem getting onto and using the Internet. I have been using Netscape 6 the past several months with no problem BUT I have noticed accesing email and writing letters has been much slower than when I used the old version of Netscape. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

I haven't been at this too long and I'm certain you'll get even more feedback from Jack. From my limited knowledge I'd guess that you problem lies within cookies or internet cookie preferences. Try switching to IE and see if that makes a difference. Since I cleaned up my 'puter, defragged etc and switched browsers, my speed is back to par.
[This message was edited by RC Antolina on 08 December 2001 at 09:39 PM.]

I'd say it's either the e-mail computer your ISP is using, or there's something wrong with the settings on your computer.

Michael is probably correct. Either there is a configuration problem in your e-mail setup or the ISP's e-mail server has a problem. I would more likely believe it is in your setup as most ISP's would not have the e-mail server down for 5 days.

I know nothing about Nestscape so I can't offer any suggestions on the configuration.

But, check with your ISP's help section (most have an on-line section on their web page). They may have a configuration section and give you the parameters and setup for Netscape.

RC, Michael,& Jack: Many thanks for taking the time to give the informed suggestions. Seems that when I switched over from Netscape to Explorer the email came through easily. Steve

When I was having problems on my 'puter I was on Netscape which used to be good. My son tells me it's better to go with IE. I have darn fewer problems these days. I'm certain that Jack is right that the problem in Netscape is probaby in the configuration and/or settings but if IE is working for you, keep using it. Keep Netscape as a spare.

Good luck
