Sound Blaster Live Drive IR

Post by Dan Dowd »

I read that Sound Blaster has a new unit out that has a front control panel with midi in-out, coax S/PDIF in-out, optical S/PDIF in-out, 2 line in's and has 24 bit/96khz digital to analog convertors with a 100db snr ratio. Comes with a lot of software also. Has anyone tried this unit. I have a SB live card now but this new unit looks great. They have a good description of it at their web site at www.americas.creative.com

Dan, it looks like the new "platinum" model has a separate I/O box, not a 5 1/4" slot like the Live Platinum unit.

It has some nice specs. They show a $249 list price for it.

It would work good with my Fostex VF16 as it has S/PDIF outputs.

I bought a PC barebones for 149 from tigerdirect with a creative arts Mo board. It has a front panel with the usual sound and game ports but adds optical (adat) and spdif connectors.
Here's the front panel with labels added for clarity: http://members.home.net/lbeck23/blaster.html

That link comes up with the SoundBlaster Live Platinum board. The SoundBlaster Live series of boards have been discontinued and the new model (forgot what they call it) has replaced it. The new model Platinum board comes with an external I/O unit.

You have that right Jack. I just added another 256 meg of ram and am waiting for BIAB to come out with more styles. Oh well what else is money for if you can't enjoy it.We sure ain't takin it with us. I read a book several months ago called "Die Broke". Its a great book that tells you how to set up your finances and it said the last check you write should be to the undertaker and that one should bounce.

ROTFLMAO. I'm making a good attempt to follow that theory. I like the bouncing the check to the undertaker. Does Mike W know about this??? Image
