CD burning software

I am having MAJOR problems with Roxio Easy CD Creator v5.0 Platinum. Is anyone else having problems?

I am running Win98 SE and the problem I am having is:

I burn a CD and then my computer freezes. It will happen after EVERY cd I burn.

I like the application because of the feature to not put a space between tracks with the disc-at-once feature. I have a ton of bootlegs that I am converting to CD and the Roxio product is the only product that I have found that has a TRUE disc-at-once feature. Maybe you guys know of another?

One thing, you cannot have anything else running when you do a burn or many times it will end up a "coaster".

Make sure you are off line, have everything except what is absolutely necessary turned off, including turning off any virusscan.

I've found this to be the case with both the older V4 and the current V5 software. I don't think this is a software issue, but rather the turning off unnecessary programs and possibly hardware conflicts.

I did encounter problems that the burner would hang up after I upgraded by sound card to a SoundBlaster MP3+ 5.1 with my HP 4/4/24 Burner. I upgraded to a different burner and since then there is no conflict problems.

Make sure you have the latest updates from Roxio. There is an update for the V5, but I'm not sure what all it does.

Last, try a different brand of CD-R. I had some problems with bad CD-R's causing problems.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have tried a different brand of CDR and I still make coasters and EasyCD5 still hangs.

I also shutdown EVERYTHING running in the background. I have always done this.

I have a HP Pavilion 8575c and it is a HP burner. I have found a couple of people posting issues regarding their burners and v5 and conflicts, but I thought the update from Roxio would fix it, but I guess not.

I guess my next question is:
What other programs are out there that can burn a true disc-at-once without the slight mS gap inbetween.

I have heard some people talking about NTI? Anyone use it before?

Mark, NTI (lite version) came with my new CD burner. I had it installed, but didn't see any difference between it and the Adaptec/Roxio so I uninstalled it. I did some burns with it and it worked but I did get some clicks between songs doing a disk at a time from wav file songs on my hard drive.

Try DiscJuggler. It's a much better CDR program.

There is a program which someone mentioned on this forum called End it All. It shuts everything down and frees up your computers resources. I have been using it for several months. I recently purchased a Pacific Digital CD burner that makes CD's at 25X. I am using Roxio's (formally Adaptec) version 5.0. I had to update it to work with my new CD burner from their website. So far its great. No coasters yet.

Dan, my new burner is the Pacific Digital, that I bought at Sam's Club. Really fast and no "coasters" even with other programs running!

I wasn't impressed with the NTI software that came with it. The NTI worked but as I said before, I tried one disk at a time burn and got a click between each song.

When I first got it I had the Adaptec 4.02 and it worked with that. About two weeks ago I got the Roxio V5. I did the update for V5 before I ever did anything so I didn't try it before upgrading but so far the V5 is running without problems.

I've thought about going to Windows XP but the Roxio needs the XP patch to work and they haven't posted it on their web site yet.

A coaster is a write-once CD that doesn't get burned properly. Since they can't be burned again, the only thing they're good for is a place to set your drink.

Jack. I like the Roxio V 5.0 a lot better than the NTI . The Roxio has a great Spin Doctor that allows coping the old LP's and breaks the songs into seperate tracks with as much noise removal as you can stand. I went to the NTI site to try and upgrade but it wont let me do it without purchasing the non-OEM version. They can keep it with that kind of support. My Pacific Digital burner so far is flawless. Best $150 I spent. Burns a CD in aprox 8 min.

Hey guys,

I fixed the problem.

1. I removed Easy CD Creator v5.0 Plat.
2. I went to HP's website and downloaded the new BIOS update and installed.
3. Reinstalled Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, but did a custom install and did not install Take Two (per Roxio's suggestion).
4. Downloaded the latest software update from Roxio and applied it.
5. Burning with NO PROBLEMS! NO COASTERS!

Great! I would suspect the HP BIOS update fixed the problems. Their Take Two program has had several problems. It won't work with Windows 2000 unless the patch (fix) they have for it is applied.
