MP3 Editing
Does anyone know of an application or program (prefer free!) for the Macintosh, that will edit (pitch & tempt) and save MP3 and Mpeg files?

CoolEdit -- the demo-version is free.
Not sure if it works on the Mac or not, though.

BUT, the Demo only lets you save 1 minute of an MP3!
If all your songs are only 1 minute long, you're ok!

Hmmmm, now you just need a way to combine MP3's.
If you can save the file as a .wav file, there are freeware programs that will convert .wav into .mp3 files.

IMO, it is well worth registering the program. Best all round program I have used, including Goldwave and just about every other music program that has come and gone. I tried the demo for about 15 minutes and then registered it online.

I've got the old version (CoolEdit 96 ?) as a demo. I rarely use it, though.
I see they've added a lot of neat stuff (multi-track -- woohooo) into the new version.

It's easy to find a freeware/shareware Mac MP3 player and encoder. Finding a free editor is a bit more difficult.
Players/Encoders:
<ul>[*]iTunes (free from Apple, requires OS9 or later)
[*]Audion 2.5 (Commercial, but excellent)
[*]SoundJam MP Plus (Free)
[*]MacAmp
Editors:
<ul>[*]MP3 Rage 3.7 (Shareware $25)
[*]Melody Assistant 5.7 (Shareware $15)
[*]SoundApp (Free - can't remember if it will alter pitch/tempo but you can try it)
The best editor I've used (on any platform) is Macromedia's Sound Edit 16. It's commercial and hasn't been updated in a while but it will absolutely do anything you want. You have complete control over pitch, tempo, EQ, effects, etc.
A shareware product ($35) with similar features to Sound Edit 16 is Sound Studio 1.5.5 from Felt Tip Software. I don't believe it exports directly to MP3 but you can always export to QT or AIFF and then use a freeware encoder like SoundApp.
