Problem With Direct Cable Connection
I'm trying to access files from a laptop via direct parallel cable. I've installed the direct connection in both computers (in the windows setup section of add/remove programs), followed the wizard, hooked-up the cables, and the computers talk to each other, but - The Guest(PC)gives me a window that wants me to put in the name of the Host computer. I looked on the laptop, and it says AACOMP INC. CUSTOMER (Compaq)on the properties box. If I type that, it doesn't work. Everything seems to be set, but it doesn't see the shared files or host computer although it shows they're connected. Is there somewhere else I can search on the laptop to get the "computer name"?

Kenny--- Three things to check/set:
Use ControlPanel and open 'Network'. Click the 'Identificatio' tab and that will show you the 'name' DCC is looking for. If I remember correctly, the 'workgroup' should be the same on BOTH computers.
While in the Network applet, click the 'File Sharing' button and make sure that is set the way you want. Then close Control Panel and, using Windows Explorer, RIGHT click the icon of the drive of the drive you wish to share and LEFT click 'sharing' from the menu that appears. Set the drive sharing and repeat the procedure for any other drives you wish.
If you need anything further, post or drop me an email. --Everett
