Video Transfers

Post by Joe Delaronde »

My new computer is an MDA1000, 256 ram,256 cache, All In Wonder Radeon video card,SB platinum sound card,40 gig drive, Sony 12x/8x/32x RW CD
I am using VideoWave V4.0 as the capture and edit software which works quite well. I am able to capture video, edit, add transitions, & special effects and add special effect titles.

I am having problems transfering the video back to the VCR. First I thought it was my cable, but that is working, because, with the camcorder on and hooked up to the video card, when I boot up the computer, I can see the computer monitor screen in the viewfinder. So it works!!! So far!!

As soon as the Win 98 screen appears on the monitor, it stops or dissconnects the camcorder. There must me a switch in the Win98 setup that's not toggled on. Has anyone ran across this problem.
Also, everything in the software works until it comes to routing the video back to the VCR.
I have phoned the software people, MGI & Win people to no avail.

Probably just some simple little thing, but I can't find it, so I put it out to the users who have ALWAYS solved my problems.
Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with your video card or software, but based on some experience with Avid and Media 100 software I can say this:

Most video editing software contains various output options that need to be set before outputting any edited sequences to videotape. Check your software for the procedure for setting those options and make sure the options are correct. Also, with effects, you may have to render all the effects in your sequence before playing them out. (You've probably already checked this.)

Try recording to a standard VCR (VHS, S-VHS, Beta-SP, etc.) or just route your output video signal to an NTSC monitor (Canada is NTSC, right?) you'll at least be able to see if you are getting any video output at all. (The problem may be with your camcorder.)

Check the camcorder documentation for any mention of recording video from an external video source. You may have to change some setting on the camcorder to do so.

Also check that the record tab on the cassette is intact (or in the correct position). I know it sounds dumb, but it's happened to everyone!

You might also check out this website: http://www.wwug.com

Check under the "WWUG Forums" heading for discussions on various editing systems. I didn't see any mention there of your software, but every other video editing system seems to be represented and someone in one of those groups could probably help you solve your problem.
[This message was edited by Mark Herrick on 06 July 2001 at 10:29 AM.]

Joe....

I have a friend who is using that ATI "All-In-Wonder" video card too. We found out that the drivers for the video card and the program he was using to do the video stuff, was sitting on the same IRQ, resulting in several quirky problems.

We down-loaded up-dated drivers for the ATI card and most problems went away. While small problems (usually operator induced) still exist,It's all workin' fairly good now.
