wierd audio playback

I tried saving the audio files before playing. I re installed Media Player and I keep getting a window that says something about filters. Starting to get in over my head. What kind of files are you trying to play?? WAV, MP3 or something else????

I have Windows Media Player and don't get anything like that??

Go to my site and try playing one of my CD samples. They are all standard MP3 files and should play without any additional "filters"...

Jack, I saved "take me...." to desktop and when I played it I still get that breakup stacatto thing????

Now we're getting someplace. It's still breaking up, but apparently it is local in your computer - nothing to do with the internet or links.

Make sure Windows Media Player is set as the default player for the various types of files, such as wav, mp3, wma, etc. There is an option in the Windows Media Player for this (Tools/Options/Formats). If some other audio player was trying to access the file the same time as WMP it could cause a conflict and possible breakup.

PC loading (programs running) and memory potentially could cause some of this too.

I have a SoundBlaster AWE64 sound card. I don't know if this is applicable to other sound cards but you can check. In the Sounds and Multimedia section of the Control Panel (may only be Multimedia if you have Win98) there is a setup for performance. Click on the Audio Tab and then the Advanced button for Sound Playback. That will bring up another screen and one of the slider options is for Hardware Acceleration. Mine is currently set to max. Check yours and you may have to work with it to get proper playback.

RC...are you trying to save or play at "peak times"? I often have trouble saving and playing music between 7 and 9 in the evenings. If I wait until after 11, I have no problems. The RA player is especially sensitive to web congestion.

Also, make sure you have no other (or as few as possible) applications running when trying to save/play files. Anything running reduces system resources.
