Gene, I've had one called Ha Ha.
It's come in about three times in the last couple of months, each time the virus program detects it, same as yours.

I don't think it's the same one, but this sort of junk lasts for quite some time due to people forwarding so much info and others trustingly opening it. (I've been caught with a virus, so I'm an authority on being careless).

The said trojan horse takes up residence on a user's computer , replicates itself and sends copies of itself to everyone on their address book with out the user necessarily being aware of it's existance.Particularly susceptable are MS Outlook/Outlook Express users on PC's
I get a copy every few weeks, but most of them I assume come from an infestation we had at my worksite a few months back. I wouldn't necessarily point fingers at forumites, unless there is no one else who might have you on their addressbook.
It's a pretty insidious trojan horse

here is a link to more information:
http://www.sexyfun.net/index.shtml
although it appears to be the source of the virus emails it is indeed NOT!! It is a website set up to spread info ABOUT the virus and how to deal with it...
[This message was edited by Dave Van Allen on 17 April 2001 at 08:13 AM.]

Some people have Outlook Express set to add anyone who sends them mail to their address book. It's the default setting! Image

Anyway, the Forum' email account, quasar@steelguitarforum.com, receives this virus about once a month. It's harmless to the Forum because it's a Windows program, and the server runs Linux.

I figure that someone who has the virus registered on the forum (back when we had open registration), and he still hasn't cleaned up his machine. None of my other email accounts receive it.

Gene,
A couple of months ago I was getting this thing two or three times per day. Now I get it maybe once a week or so. I think it was mostly coming from a motorcycle email list I subscribe to. From the way it's declining, I'd say most folks are cleaning up and not passing it on. I read email in my unix shell account, so I haven't been infected, although I did check to see if I had any of the suspect files.

I have gotten this also, but my virus detector detects it and I delete it before it does any damage. I wish whoever is sending it would get another hobby.

I get it quite often. Obviously someone has my e-mail address in their address book and is infected with the virus. I've tried to figure out who sent it, by other e-mail's I've received at the same time but can't as the snow white message comes in with an origination time that is sometimes an hour ahead.

I also suspect it is someone on the forum. The problem is, the person that is infected probably doesn't have an antivirus program or at least one that's up to date and doesn't know. Thats the nature of viruses such as this, the one that's infected and sending out the messages usually is unaware they have it.

My Norton antivirus catches it, just an annoyance.

Hey Gene,
I got that e-mail ha ha ha thing about six
months ago and it wiped out all of my windows.
I had to re-download everything. Ever since
then I receive the same mail at least once a
week. I just keep deleting it and hopefully it will go away.

I guess I'm as active as anyone on the forum and have never received that virus. If anyone from the forum was sending it, I would almost definitely have it too.

I've recieved the snow white email twice in the last 3 months, both times, immediatly thereafter, was plagued with a virus. Recieved the email only 2 weeks ago and today my antivirus program pops up a flag on an email from a friend of mine.I deleted the file (??) and the notation told me that the file had been deleted that contained the virus. I don't have a clue as to what has happened, since my knowledge of computers is very limited. Image

The virusscanner we have installed at my work occasionally finds this virus. I think the highest amount was about 2 months ago.

The one & only thing I can say in defense of web tv is,I am immune to viruses, only because web tv doesn't have a hard drive. I've received it several times, tried to open it,& couldn't.

I have gotten this virus in the past. I went to the location antivirus.com on a suggestion from a friend. By following their advise and using their program I got rid of it completely. A good site for virus problems. Try it and see. John McConnell, Yuba City, CA

Since this thread has been posted, I haven't received the "snow white" virus message.

It makes me wonder if someone on the forum had it and didn't know it, and after seeing this thread checked and found they had the virus..??..??

Thanks for the FORUM, & being a part of this wonderful band of people that look out for each other, I was saved from this HA,HA,HA,thing. I receved this for the first time this morning, and deleated it then and there, but if I had not been a member of the FORUM, I,m sure that I would have, like a jackass, opened it up, and lost EVERYTHING, including my FLY2K program that I have just purchased a couple of weeks ago through AOL.
Thanks, EVERYONE, for this valuble info.
Long live the FORUM, and THANKS, b0b

I've received it a bunch of times too, but since Macs are immune to windows viruses, its wouldn't have been a a problem.

However, I just assumed it was some sort of porno spam and deleted it anyway.
