Windat.exe
Hi, Are there any computer gurus out there who have ever had e-mail text messages returned to them as undeliverable with an ATT icon attachment which when clicked on causes a pop up window to appear which reads "Windows cannot find Windat.exe.This program is needed for opening files of the "DAT File." Underneath it are the words "Location of Windat.exe" and a narrow white rectangle. Inside the rectangle to the far left is a small blue icon containing C:\in white.Below this are the words o.k., cancel, and locate.
I know that Windat.exe is a program that is used for recording wavs to create mp3 fles and wonder if there are two different formats called Windat.exe. Would like to know how to go about downloading the one I need to read any e-mail that requires this format.I'm trying to get a few different opinions. Anybody who has the answer can reach me at neilflanz@mindspring.com.
Many thanks.
[This message was edited by Neil Flanz on 15 February 2001 at 01:25 AM.]

[This message was edited by Neil Flanz on 15 February 2001 at 01:28 AM.]

Neil -- It would help if you'd indicate what version of Windows you're using as well as your browser, and email program.
If I remember correctly, WINDAT was a utility included with the VOYETRA sound application. The only version of VOYETRA I've had was for Windows 3.x but I do think they've created new stuff for Windows 9.x.
I did a search and found a site to download WINDAT as well as other related files but don't know if they will be the proper version for your system. USE WITH CAUTION !

Here's a link to the VOYETRA web site. On the top-left you'll see a blurb about getting a FREE download of their AUDIOSTATION, the app that I recall used WINDAT. Check it out.

Hope this was helpfull. -- Everett
[This message was edited by Everett Cox on 15 February 2001 at 02:30 PM.]

Neil,
A Windat attachment results from someone sending you e-mail, using MS Outlook, through an incorrectly configured MS Exchange server.
There's nothing of importance in it and the sender likely has no idea it was even attached. You can simply disregard it or delete it. If you're curious you can always open it from within Notepad or WordPad to view the contents. Double-clicking the attachment won't work because there is no file association on your computer that it matches.
Regards,
Jeff
