anti virus

Post by winston »

Seems that my Norton's program has been outdated beyond the usual updates and its time to either upgrade or go with a different program. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Winston

I don't know if there really is a choice. Either Norton or McAfee should work well.

However, I had McAfee and after I upgraded from Win98 to WinME I started having problems that Microsoft support told me were "known McAfee caused problems". I updated my software, through their on-line update facility to the latest version of McAfee and still had some of the same problems. I uninstalled McAfee and installed Norton Antivirus 2001 and all the problems that Microsoft identified as McAfee caused went away.

Winston -- I have been more than TOTALLY happy with TrendMicro's PC-CILLIN virus protection for several years. It has saved my butt twice, recovered it once, and kept it out of trouble on other occasions. I have tried some of the other well-known products and find PC-Cillin usually superior in all the areas about which we care.

http://www.antivirus.com/pc-cillin/products/

1. I've not found any virus not covered that other products handled.

2. Competitive price -- I paid $30 5 years ago and see they are STILL asking $29.95.

3. Moderate size and impact on your computer system.

4. Frequent and efficient updates - automatic if you wish. Along with meaningfull email'd alerts

5. Easy to use -- covers all the bases like MEMORY, BOOT SECTOR, INTERNET, EMAIL, WORD PROCESSING, FLOPPY/ZIP DISK, etc.

6. Support -- all there, including person to person (which I once needed AND got!).

Needless to say that I have NO interest in this software OTHER than to HIGHLY recommend using it. I've spent many hours trying to help other people who didn't. --Everett
[This message was edited by Everett Cox on 18 February 2001 at 10:26 AM.]
