How To Dial ISP on Startup?

Post by Mel Culbreath »

I run Windows 95B and MS Internet Explorer 4.72. MSIE is one of the programs that I have in my startup file so that it loads automatically each time I boot - usually once or twice per day.

Can Any one tell me how to make MSIE dial my ISP each time I boot up?

Thanks,

Mel

Look at Dialup Networking Properties. I think it's in there, but since I got my cable modem Image I haven't had to play with that.

From Within IE:

Tools
Internet Options
Connections
Click on the 3rd radio button ("Always Dial my Default Connection"

Note: this is from IE 5.x -- I believe 4.x is very similar, if not identical.

Now, if somebody could just tell me how to get my #&%*$ setting to STAY put. Every few days, the button gets reset to the Never Dial option.

Are you really sure you want it to automatically dial up every time you restart windows?? It's really not that much of hassle to click on the dialup icon.

You could always put the dialer link in your startup file and it will always dial as part of the windows initialization.

Jim - I couldn't find any way to do it in Dial Up Networking. I wish they offered cable here, but I'm too far from civilization.

David - IE 4.x doesn't have a TOOLS menu, but I went to VIEW, then INTERNET OPTIONS, then CONNECTION, but could only find two radio buttons. Neither said anything about dialing on startup.

Jack - I guess I want the PC to dial automatically for the same reason I want it to load programs on startup. I'm lazy :-(

Thanks for your feedback guys.

I went to my local computer users group meeting tonight and threw out the question to them. One of the guys asked what home page I was using for my browser. I replied that I use a blank page. He said to put a URL in the "Address" box. I did that and now my browser fires up dial-up networking and dials my ISP and takes me to the URL in my address box when I boot up.
Just wanted to report back and let you know how the problem was solved.

Thanks

Mel
