Program not found ?

Post by John Rickard »

This message pops up when I click on certain programs or try to "Read Mail". Some programs wont open.

Windows can nat find FILES.32VXD

This program is needed in opening files of
type 'Application'

I believe this program was deleted while cleaning out a worm virus I detected. How do I get it back & What is it?

John:
.vxd files are virtual device driver files. The one you are missing is most likely from a probgram you have loaded on your computer. It does not seem to be a resident Windows file as I do not have it on my computer. You may try re-loading the programs that give you the error message regarding this file.

Could you check that file name. All my VXD files are named xxxxx.vxd and found a couple that were xxx32.vxd but I can't find anything that is xxx.32vxd, etc. If you can come up with the exact file name maybe someone has that file.

One thing I forgot to mention. Check your recycle bin and see if the missing file is in there. If it is you can restore it to it's original location.

My take on that file is that it's not a Microsoft file but some other program as the .32vxd is not a standard file extension. Everything I have on my machine is a .vxd extension.

If you cannot find the vxd file, it is time to reload Windows, unless you are willing to take a very large risk and open the Registry in real mode, but that is not the ideal choice unless you are an expert in dealing with the system.

Thanks b0b - that was one I was unaware of. I use Dr. Solomon or f-prot to keep my system clean and had not run into that particular problem before.

Now it's in non-volotal RAM for further distribution.
