Nashville 112, my opinion

Post by Johnny Cox »

I have had my Nashville 112 for several months now and wish to share my thoughts. To put it simply, I love it. This amp has the best out of the box sound for steel that I have heard in years. Although it is only 80 watts it can get pretty loud and still hang in there. I have used it in large and small venues and in the studio. Some of the folks I play with get pretty loud, on those jobs I take two amps and no worries. I am not using any effects other than the amp reverb. I highly recomend this amp for almost any situation. Thanks Peavey for continuing to remember us steel players.

Yep, me too.I've had mine a year now and, like you, find the amp and it's reverb perfect, no effects needed.

I have 2, 1 i've had 2 years the other about 4 mo. and they both go with me to gigs, very pleased with these amps. But I do use off board reverb and delay, but just a little of both.

I agree wholeheartedly. After I bought the first one and played it out a couple of times, I was sold completely. This amp NEVER sounds brittle or harsh, at any volume. Shortly after I bought a second one and take then both around to any gig or jam I attend. And add to that the absolutely incredible, unheard of kind of customer support you get from Mike Brown and Peavey. So I did the natural thing - I bought a third one as a backup and to leave at rehearsal places. Thanks a ton to Mike Brown and the great Peavey engineers.

I recall another steeler by the name of Buddy something or another describing the Steel King as the best "out of the box sound" that he's heard in years.

Now I know where I've been going wrong. I have been using my amp in the box. No wonder I can't get any highs out of it.

Just Got my 112 a month ago. That and a Trutone pickup makes my MSA sound fantastic...

Johnny, I agree with you one hundred percent. The Nashville 112 amp is perfect for the steel and it's definitely the best amp I've used. I use mine at home and at shows and it sounds amazing! Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10

Does the 112 have a 15" speaker and what brand is the speaker? I'm looking for something to replace my Peavey 500 but it will have to have a big solid sound.... maybe with two of them it may have what I am looking for... but I would never part with my 500.... may just use it to practice with at home.

I love mine. I use it with a black box when I record and I can't be more pleased with the sound.

Rick, the NV-112 has a 12 inch Blue Marvel speaker. It is an 80 watt amp that has a fantastic tone. The EQ lower end of the spectrum in very intense considering the size of the amp. Although 80 watts may seem a bit wimpy when compared to the power house session 500, you will be quite amazed at how loud they really are. You can certainly play medium sized venues with no problem. One thing I noticed with my 200+ watt amplifiers is that I normally had the volume around 2 1/2, therefore I was only using about 1/4 of the power or about 50 watts. The NV-112 is quite impressive indeed and two of them weigh the same as one session 500. I never regretted getting mine.

I just want to make sure I am not going to rip some speakers when I drop that low B to G# over and over...

I have two, and don't see myself playing through anything else in the future.

I may even get a third, like Jeff - right now, one's in the theatre where I'm doing a 10-week run, one's in the car (for my NYE gig later tonight), so there's not one in my music room!!!! Yep - must get a third one....

It's tonally my favourite steel amp; its weight and compactness is a bonus.

I've used my 112 almost exclusively since I got it back in February. I've got a NV1000 but there hasn't been any jobs I worked that I would need the power of the 1000 (or the extra weight).

One thing that I think that makes the 112 sound so good is that is all "Analog" (although Mike Brown does not want to hear that). The NV1000 has a "digital" power amp.

We setup two 112's at our last club anniversary show, using a POD XT for the two channels, and it did sound great but most of the places I work are small or when I'm doing "road" gigs I only want the minimum I need to haul and setup.

Mike Brown did his "homework" on this amp.

I love mine and plan to buy another one...missed a couple chances on the forum. I get nothing but compliments from lead players and steel players both. I do use a DD3 and amp reverb turned to '3'. It floats my boat!! Image

My Sho-Bud amp had been the old stand by for years. Always had compliments on it from other musicians, but switched to a N-112 exactly a year ago and stored the old "Bud" away. So, thought I'd take it with me on my New Year's Eve gig and see if I still felt the N-112 was the best choice. The Bud sounded OK on the first set, but my sound greatly improved after I switched to the N-112 on the second set. This was a medium size hall with about 200 people. No problem at all keeping up with the loud guitar player. The N-112 easily won the contest.

I'm using the Blue Marvel in mine. I had a Black Widow in it for a while, but there wasn't enough difference in the sound to compensate for the extra weight, so I put the Blue Marvel back in. This is a great sounding amp for steel as well as jazz guitar.

I'm playing mine just as they came - and the only thing better than a 112 is two of them.

I use mine all the time and really like the sound. The only problem I've had is trying to record at home using it. I have a stereo steel system that is quiet as a mouse to record plugged in the very same place as my 112. The input levels move noticably and very little with the Walker setup. When I hear guys like Johnny Cox and Bruce Bouton recording with them it makes me wonder it there is something wrong with my particular amp. I'm not talking a lot of noise here that would bother anyone when playing a gig though. Any "feedback" would be appreciated.

I switched the blue marvels to the 1203-4s and maybe it's just my ears but i think they just sound a little sweeter or maybe more musical, but mostly from the mid's to the HI's.
[This message was edited by Roger Francis on 02 January 2006 at 04:56 PM.]

I'd like to add that I agree with Roger. The B.W. speaker sounds better to me. The mids and highs are sweeter or smoother at high volume levels. The additional weight isn't very much.

I play mine right out of the box with some reverb and a DD5 and that's all I need.
A friend of mine put a light weight neodymium in his NV112 and although it sounds OK to him it has definately changed the tonal quality of the amp to my ears, but then tone is a personal choice for us players. I feel that Peavey spent a lot of engineering hours to match the speaker to the amp so why mess with it.
Just my 2 cents.
