Profex battery info

Just to let everyone know;
I ordered the battery from the place listed on John LeMay's website. Got it all right but there something the lady at Jameco wanted me to tell whoever orders.
There is a $20 order min. The part is only $3.95! They have a catalog full of stuff, so you can get the catalog and order appropiately.......Brian

Just wanted to let you Profex users know that
you can get this Battery just about anywhere.
I got mine at Radio Shack and have also seen
them at numerous drug stores.They are really
easy to change.The battery compartment is on
the end of the card and you just pull it out,
replace the battery,and reload your settings.

I'm confused, I thought the battery in the Profex II was a solder in type????

Jack....

I think we are talkin' about two (2) things here.....

1) The Profex II unit has a soldered-in battery on the P-C board that requires one to disasembly the unit to replace. You being a certified tech, I'm sure this isn't a problem for you to do.

2) The cache-card that has the programs store in it ( you know, the one that slips in the the slot on the right side of the Profexd II) also has a battery in it. This is how it maintains the programs. It's like D-Ram, If you remove the power, It looes the data.

The cache-card battery can be replaced very easily, and is avalable almost anywhere. However, the Memory battery in the Profex II is best left to an experienced Electronics tech.

It looks like we're talking about two different things here and that's what confused me. The original post was about the soldered in battery in the Profex II and then someone else posted a comment about the cache card.

Kieth, if you go to John LeMays Miracle Audio website, it lists the phone # and part # there. I don't know if b0b has a link, but I'm pretty sure the Carter page does.
Yep, I was talking about the Profex processor, not the card that can be used with it.......Brian

The type of battery that's used in the Profex II is the same type that was used in some of the older PC's. A PC shop may be another source for the battery, but you'd probably have to take the battery with you to have them match it up.

Here's a link to one place on line with batteries. The link shows one type similar to the Profex II, but I don't know if it's the exact same thing.

I removed the original battery from a Profex II and ran a red and black wire to a 3.6 volt battery pack which I had velcrowed to the case, for a friend a few yaers ago. It has been going strong ever sence. I used a lithumn battery. If one uses a rechargeable battery, it can be powered from the internal B+,(read this as one must know where to get the proper voltage from) using a zener diode and 100 ohm resistor.

This (IMOHO) should be the way to do the back-up thing as even if the unit isn't used for a year or more, the programs stay put AND the battery is recharged when the unit os turned back on.

I have done most of my backup power(battries) like this,includeing my computers.

A word of caution,,

If you are not adapt at this kind of stuff, Please let a experienced tech do it for you. A device (computer,radio,Profex II, or other units) can be ruined by a wrong connection using battries.
