I have the most CD's specifically by....
1) John McLaughlin, in various incarnations
2) Beethoven
3) Ravi Shankar
It then warps wildly eclectic. I had a whole bunch of vinyl records stolen in 1988 that would have skewed strongly towards the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Hendrix/Santana/Clapton etc., my how times change.

My wife would kill me if she knew how many CDs and LPs I really have!
51 Joe Pass CDs (not counting all the 20 or so other discs I have with him on them).
32 Thelonious Monk
34 Jimmy Smith
At least 20 from each of these: Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Bird, Miles, Coltrane.
Others up there are Jackie McLean, Hank Mobley and Bill Evans.
Now I know where all my $$$ goes! I've always taken a part of my gig money to buy a disc or two.

A lot of these are vinyl LPs. I generally try not to focus too hard on one composer, player or band - instead, I distribute widely, I'm no completist. But I have wound up with a pretty good pile of each of these, in no particular order.
Wes Montgomery
Barney Kessel
Kenny Burrell
Thelonious Monk
Django Reinhardt
Duke Ellington
Count Basie
Elvis Presley
The Band
Bob Dylan
Buck Owens
Hank Thompson
Merle Haggard

Albert King
Roomful of Blues, Duke Robillard, Ronnie Earl
Roy Buchanan

Well, I can't give an honest accounting unless I include the vinyl. There's too much good stuff that's not on CD, and will never, ever make it to the CD format. (Those of you who choose to ignore records are just losing out on a lot of really good music...your loss, not mine.)
Number one would be Buddy Emmons. I didn't plan it that way, but I am a steeler, right?
Number two would be Ernest Tubb/Troubadours, IMHO he was THE quintessential band leader.
Number three would be a tie between Buck Owens and Ray Price.
The rest of my collection (thousands of records and hundreds of CD's) is so diverse that it literally defies categorizing.
[This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 08 September 2006 at 05:57 AM.]

for me it generally looks like
Grateful Dead
Bob Dylan
Beatles & their solo work
Byrds
the Band
New Riders
Fairport Convention/Richard Thompson
Donovan (yes, Donovan. I prefer the pre-1971 Donovan- an original talent in his time, highly self-overvalued in the present day)
Ravi Shankar
-those are just the primary niches.
