Nashville 112 as a Guitar amp...

Post by Chuck Cusimano »

After discussing the Peavey Nashville 112 with various STEEL PLAYERS in the area, I took a trip over to "Carter Steel Guitars" in Mesquite Texas, and purchased one. I read here on the forum a while back how much Johnny Cox likes his, and Junior Knight told me was happy with his also. (for six string as well as steel) Several others including Ronnie Miller, have expressed how great they are. Well, I am very happy with mine. And, it weighs just onder 43 pounds!! I play my Telecaster thru it. They are fairly small, but they sound "Ten Foot Tall". That 12" Blue Marvel speaker is unbelievable! I can hear every note clear as a bell, without turning my volume up to ten. I wish I would have bought one two years ago.

I'm with you, Chuck. I just got one, and it sounds great with both steel and tele. Gotta love the weight.

I wish the 112 had been around not two years ago,but forty years ago, maybe my back would'nt be so screwed up today from lugging around peavey 500's,400's,and fender twins,DONT NEED THEM ANYMORE.My 112 can do it all.

I can get a Marshall like sound out of my 112 when I use my POD XT with the "Brad Paisley" program. I run the POD XT into the Power Amp in (use the POD XT preamp) and my Tele sounds great.

That's strange,'cause our guitar player tried one out,& he really didn't care for it. He prefers his PV "Special 130". On a "big gig" he uses 2 of 'em,in stereo,w/ a chorus.

Smiley, I would think a "guitar" amp would be better than a "steel" amp for lead guitar.

Using my POD XT or your Profex II, or similar, directly into the power amp in should make a big difference, tho.

I'm not sold on that, I did a gig on bass and Redd Volkaert borrowed my Nashville LTD with a black widow and played straight through that. It was one of the best live tones I've ever heard out a guitar player.

Didn't Jerry Reed endorse the Session 400, playing his tele?

According to Mike Brown, amps designed for lead guitar are "voiced" different than the amps "voiced" for steel.

I couldn't get what I wanted out of my Nashville 112 with my Tele. This is not to say that someone else couldn't get what they wanted. However, with the POD XT I could get the Tele "bite".

way too subjective..

if you like the amp for the Tele use it..

If I don't like it for my Tele's, I won't.

Many Tele spit pickers use Peavey Steel amps..I have not yet seen or heard one with the N112.

So far the only Peavey Steel amp that works for "ME"..is the Session 400 ..but I have seen and heard countless Tele players with Nashville 400's and they sounded purty good to me...I can;t find my way with the Nashville 400 for Tele....go figure..

Seasoned pickers seem to sound the same with any amp they use. THEY may have a preference, but to the listener it's never far from their regular tone or sound. Our guitar player, who's been playing professionally for 40 years, recently blew out his '64 Fender Concert on a gig and plugged into a 100 watt Yorkville bass combo amp to finish out the set. You could not tell the difference at all. Our lead singer swapped guitars with him for one tune....ouch!! The tone was like night and day.

The old "tone in the hands" thing I guess.

I think what Chris says has merit.

The reality is probably that if you know what sound you are looking for you can get something dialed in which is in the neighborhood.

but if you have your choice....

I do not like my NV112 for guitar, except distored with a tube screamer. It's just too sterile for me. JP

Well I have to tell you that I just got my Nashville 112 a few months ago and I couldn't be more happy. I like sound very much and who wouldn't like weight. My hats off to the people at Peavy electronics for another job well done. Bobby

Tony, Yes I am. I am playing the Peavey JF-1 EXP in cherry red. It has humbukers and sounds great through my Nashville 112. I have heard other guitars ,such as Strats, Teles, etc, played through a 112 as well and to my ears they sounded great also. All in all , I think the 112 is one heck of an amp. Bobby

UP-DATE....I've played through my new P.V. 112 now for a week in four different buildings, and have changed the tone settings very little. Last night I found out you sure don't have to move some of the knobs much at all to make a difference to the ear. I came off the BASS a "R.C.H." and it showed. The "Shift" is really sensitive, as is the "Reverb". (at least on mine).. I play the neck pup with a "Grady Martin" feel, and the bridge pup, I can get "Don Rich" and "Roy Nichols" just by using my tone knob on my Tele. I don't try to get any Distortion at all out of the amp. I play through a Peavey Max 100, and have a channel set just for that. (I don't use it much in my Ray Price, Johnny Bush, Mel Tillis, Farron Young, Buck Owens, George Jones, Conway Twitty, or my origional tunes)
Maybe a Rock-n-Roller wouldn't like it much, but I love my N112!

I worked a job last night with Ray Austin on Steel, and when we were tearing down, he looked into the back of my N112, and said, "Huh!, why is the reverb set at an angle?" We checked it out,and the magnet on the speaker was pulling the reverb unit up by magnetic force. I'm adding some screws into the vinal pouch to hold it down, and prevent that from happening.

Anyone else noticed that with theirs?

Junior, maybe that's why you didn't care for the reverb sound in yours..??

Chuck...I think the only reason I don't like the reverb is that I love the reverb in my Pro-Fex...and it don't make noise when the drummer has a heavy right foot!
To me the 1-12 is a GREAT guitar amp!!!
