It is a program from a group called The Music Genome Project. You type in an artist or song you like and it makes a "radio station" out of your selection...one that introduces you to similar artists. It is all done with Flash.

I played around with it for an hour last night...post your thoughts back here.

I punched in the named of Cannonball Adderley. It played a great tune that made me remember just how good he was. Then they played Dexter Gorden, Ben Webster and the Jazz Messengers. At that point , they asked me to register. It was then I found out that only US ctizens can register. Still, thank you for a lovely morning listening present.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Andy Greatrix on 16 December 2005 at 08:03 AM.]</p></FONT><font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Andy Greatrix on 16 December 2005 at 08:22 AM.]</p></FONT><font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Andy Greatrix on 16 December 2005 at 08:24 AM.]</p></FONT>

It's got the Campbell Brothers in there.

It is also very good for main stream jazz.

It's actually a really cool idea. They just don't have enough steel guitar music in it yet.

I combined "Friends of Dean Martinez", "Lloyd Green", "Campbell Brothers" and "Bill Frisell". It's been finding some pretty cool stuff, including a Jerry Douglas/Derek Trucks track I'd never heard.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by b0b on 16 December 2005 at 02:38 PM.]</p></FONT>

I punched in Lloyd Green. It played a Lloyd Green tune and later in the line up I got a Speedy West tune, one by Noel Boggs, another by Jerry Douglas, followed by another Speedy West tune.

Pretty fun!

It definitely has a pedal steel/slide category. The trick is to create a station and carefully monitor what it plays. I started with a Campbell brothers song and it said it was playing it because it had pedal steel. I just said I dislike any song that didn't have that as a criteria. Now I'm getting Daniel Lanois, Sonny Landreth, Friends of Dean Martinez, and some folks I never heard of. Very cool. <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Bill McCloskey on 17 December 2005 at 12:13 PM.]</p></FONT>

I typed in Dale Watson, and it worked great.
.. then added some NPRS, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Iris DeMent, Commander Cody, Laura Cantrell, etc.etc. to see what kind of DNA would brew.

Its kicked back some yound country stuff but I told it not to play so its hit me up with some Junior Brown, Buck Owens, and Marty Robbins for the last couple of tunes all with great steel.

It's great. but almost a little scary. Think, the technology didn't exist less than 10 years ago.

Lee,

No cookies, looks like you can't access after a trial period w/o registering.

Here's the message I get:

"We hope you now have a pretty good idea what Pandora is all about and that you've enjoyed it so far. To continue to listen for free, we just ask that you register."

No way for me!

Kind Regards, Walter

I'm glad to see everyone outside the US is so honorable, but why not just make up a Zip code?

10001 is a good one.

Bill's got the idea.

Make up an address, they're just trying to get some demographics.

My favorite:

Asdf Ghjkl
1060 West Addison
Chicago, IL
12345

Any Blues Brothers fans out there?

for E-mail addresses, they're just going to send you spam. Make up something like asdf@ghjkl.com, or just set up a yahoo account to get the registration code and cancel it.
