I love it when those individuals that abuse drugs or alcohol, or otherwise violate the criminal laws of this great land.......find themselves worthy of advising the rest of us not to follow in THEIR footsteps. Do they really believe that we are following THEM?

That's the ultimate in conceit.

Ray, I'm sure most of us wouldn't consider following in their footsteps, but I'm more concerned about the younger generation who do look up to their rock and rap stars as some kind of "role-model". Unfortunately, that's real, and that's scary.

(But I'd agree with you that nobody is lookin' up to Glen Campbell anymore -- if ever that was the case.)

I do some volunteer work which regularly exposes me to a group of youths whose goals in life are to smoke dope, play video games and live off of their parents as long as possible. Parents who have children with their own TV's hooked to cable owe it to them to actually watch MTV, BET and VH1 long enough to see what they're being exposed to. I'm not exactly a prude, but it shocks me the kinds of messages that kids 7-12 years old are getting.

Hey wait a minute! I just realized we've all been talking about the WRONG GUY! Mike's post is about some guy named "Clen Campbell", not Glen Campbell!

Crooner Marty Stuart Serves DWI Sentence

The Associated Press
Wednesday, July 7, 2004; 8:49 AM

GALLATIN, Tenn. - Country singer Marty Stuart is serving his sentence for drunken driving. Stuart, 45, arrived at the Sumner County Jail about 10:30 p.m. Monday, said Chief Deputy Bob Barker.

The singer will be jailed for 48 hours and receive four hours of credit for time he served the day of his arrest last month, Barker said.

He is being held in an area close to the jail supervisor for his protection, Barker said.

Stuart was arrested June 23 after police responded to a minor traffic accident in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant. He was charged with first-offense drunken driving and released on $1,500 bail.

Stuart was charged with drunken driving in April 2002 after police received a tip he was intoxicated at a store. The charge was dismissed when a judge ruled there was not enough probable cause to stop his car, but Stuart lost his driver's license for a year for refusing to take a blood-alcohol test.

Stuart is a member of the Grand Ole Opry. His hits include "Tempted" and "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'," a duet with Travis Tritt.

"Nah, there is nothing wrong with just a little social drink"

"Dint ya know Jesus turned water into wine?"

"Nuthun' wrong with a glass of wine at dinner"

"A Christmas party with no booz. Come ON! I am not going if that is the case!"

I thought Christmas was to worship Jesus and to honor his birth. Ya mean ya gotta have booz even for that? Wow! Question; is booz considered a little "social drink"?

NOT!!

"How come you don't drink (insert name)! Do you think you are better than me?"

And on and on. Then we have Glen Campbell and now Marty Stuart, formerly George Jones and Hank Williams, and on and on. Countless and untold others. All over the world in every walk of life since almost the beginning of time.

Heard a man once say, "The only reason he drinks is so he does not feel shame when he makes a pass at his neighbor's wife!"

"And the only reason she drinks, is to LET him!"

The billions and billions of dollars spent on hospital and doctor bills not including medicine; the broken marriages and untold hurt and abuse that has been promulgated by what began as a little social drink.

The statistic ARE there, whether one believes it or not. For every one that "can hold it", there are thousands that can't. How many needless deaths have happened as a result of what started out as just a little social drink? Again the statistics are there.

The "designated driver" is like locking the hen house and giving the keys to the fox. Or, "Don't drink and drive!" Yeah, as though the drunk is sane enough to make that decision. When will man ever learn truth?

"Madd"?

Oh great idea. But I gotta better one. "Mothers against drinking" Or what about "DAD"---Dads against drinking? Oops forgot, that would be getting to the root cause. Sorry bout that. After all, nuttin at all wrong wid a little nip,,,,,

out behind the barn to calm his nerves before he killed his wife with a hammer after a domestic quarrel when he then consumed more than just a little "nip". Again, the stats are there.

"Well, "they" did not control their drinking. Don't blame a social drink on that!"

Yep, and "God did not make little green apples either."

Drinking is wrong. NO "alcoholic" was born that way, another myth that "thinking" people buy into. They did not come out of the womb a drunk. It all stated with just one. Then two, then three....then "come AHN, hev wen fer da rode buddieeeee". Yep, the "road" that kills innocent people.

Until finally, one day in broken down sorrow, tears (NOT of joy) streaming down their pitiful slobbery faces, "oh my god, what have I done?"

Wonder why they didn't say "oh my Osama bin laden" or "oh my Sadam Hussein"? Why is it they always use the name "god"?

One would think that "god" was something special. Or maybe even greater than good. Or maybe even greater than that.

Nope, the God I know begins with a capital letter. God does not equate with "oh my god" or "oh god!" on every TV and/or movie show just about in America.

Let ya in on a little secret; the "god" they are talking about is NOT our creator. God is our creator and when ya say "oh my god!" in "social" surroundings you are more likely than not, blaspheming his holy precious name. Cause the way it is used most of the time, the last thing on the mind is the true God. Think about it bretheren.

yep.

It is said, "there are no absolutes". Rubbish! I will give you one. "NO way is anyone EVER going to be drunk (on alcohol), or assault someone under the influence; or kill someone while drunk driving if, they did NOT drink in the first place!".

Thank Jesus for those that can "see" that; and practice it.

"For there is none so blind as he who will not see!"

Addiction is a bad thing, folks. No one ever intends to become an addict when they take their first drink. Better to stay away from it. Get addicted to steel-playing!

I saw some footage of Glen on one of his last days on some show before Conan a few nights back. He did a concert for the inmates. They were all behind a chain link fence, but they were all loving it. Anyone see any of this?
