Anyone ever heard Buddy Emmons play this beautiful song at the St. Louis convention?

Jim Cohen, have you played it there? Other conventions?

MP3 File below

I've never heard Buddy play this other than on the Judy Collins track, I've never heard Jim Cohen play it either..but I'm certain Jim could knock this one out of the park..

But..

This tune, because of Buddy's playing and influence , was on our bands primary play list for years and years and years back in Ct. If you had come to Ct. you could have heard me play it..and play it..and play it..and play it...blah blah blah....And if you did come to see us play in Ct I would have let you buy me some Beers too ! ( or not )

It's a classic no doubt..at least for us steel folks. Although I am currently gigging, but not with my wife. If she ever decides to come back on the bandstand..( she would have to be crazy ) we would revive that song on the first night, first set..maybe first song..

here's a version of us playing the tune back on the Bandstand one night in 1982 at around 1:30 AM

A few gafs by me, a few tuning and pitch issues but all in all I guess I was lucky to still be awake at 1:30 AM..

Oh yea..Its a Sho-Bud Pro III with a Twin

Someday Soon

great song then ..still is now...

Tony,

I listened to your MP3 version before going to work. Great way to start the day!

Thanks!

Dennis

p.s. I think I read somewhere (on the forum?) that Buddy got the Judy Collins session w/o much notice, showed up and
played on-the-fly/off-the top-of-his-head.

And his contribution turns the song into a "classic" (imo) that inspires a luv for the PSG in so many of us. Amazing!

I'm in awe of the man's musical talent and genuis.

It's on Jim Cohen's Finally There CD. He says his inpiration for it was Buddy's intro on the Judy Collins album.

Hey guys, thanks for the mention. Yes, I've played it at the ISGC, and just about everywhere else I go. It's kind of become my 'signature tune'. It is indeed on my first CD, "Finally Here" ("here" or "there", what's the difference, David? Image)and you can "hear" it on the CD page at CDBaby.com. "Here" is the link:

Cheers,

I sang that song at the 'Borderline' in London's West End in November, '88, and had the great pleasure of handing the solo over to Mr Emmons himself; that was, arguably, the most enjoyable gig of my life!
