Matter of Fact,( and I thank you for letting me get back on the right track), I did.

We all know, survivors, and victors write history.

There is little history of them except that of militia groups in general in the "pre nullification" period. They weren't real happy with the "taxation policies" of pres Jackson.

Things, as we know, went downhill from there..

It's my experience here in Oregon that there are still many "militias". I know people in them, as I do in "bike clubs", but I've never really been a "joiner. I have a small "authority problem".

I'm not sure that naming a band after one, especially in it's territory would be a good idea. You might find out that one of their ancestors killed one of yours, or vice versa.

It's kind of a "swishy sounding" name anyhow.

I have taken a lot of flack for naming my Australian Shepard the way I did. I call him "Bill" for short. You don't want to know.

I never really married him.

I would have come out better sometimes, methinks, had I.

From Reading your town "Website", especially the "history" section, other then mentioning "John C Calhoun", there sure isn't much on local "southern history". You'd think it was a vacation spot in the Catskills.

Just a word on Pennsylvania, since it came up. There's a lot of steel guitar history here, including Winnie Winston and Bobbe Seymour (who knew?). To some extent Sacred Steel got its start here. I met an old time steel player named George McMenamin and every room of his house is filled with quads, triples, pedal steels and Dobros. Several Forum members are in PA, including that guy Jim Cohen whose CD pops up every time you submit a post. Of course he's originally from the Mid-West I think. And myself, I'm from North Mississippi and Tennessee.

As for New Yawk, as they said above, it's a big city so has lots of musicians. The real question is what special kinds of music originated in New York. I'd say Mississippi tops the list for that. If you think of Jimmy Rogers, Robert Johnson and Elvis, you have country, blues and rock'n'roll. New York has modern classical (Gershwin and Bernstein), Broadway musicals, and...ah... modern jazz - no wait, most of those guys came from Kansas City, Philly, etc....and...ah...well, you see what I mean?

No offense intended, I love New York, it'd be a great place except for all the New Yorkers - just like France. Okay, okay, I'm only kiddin', I think.

Eric, sorry about Abbeville's website. See, there has been very little "Reconstruction" going on around here. OH, a few trailers(including mine) added back porches a few years back, but nothing the Daughters of the Confederacy would have taken a second look at. There's some good John C. Calhoun Rumors around(another good band name, huh?), but that's for private, or later posts. But ol' John was at least as fertile as Tommy Jefferson, just without the P.R.

Thanks for the mention, David. Actually, I'm originally from... New Yawk! Born in Manhattan, where I lived the first 3 years, then raised on Long Island. But I did go to college in the midwest, St. Louis, where I met Scotty and started taking steel lessons and the rest is histrionic...

Tom, your list is not really that impressive if you consider more than just name recognition. The one missing from your list who is probably the greatest musician born in NY, is Hal Rugg. He can sight read music on steel AND he can do the stuff he records in a live setting, as well.

I lived in Somers for over 35 years and I miss it. My daughters still live there. I visit at least once a week. Our doctors are in Katonah and Mount Kisco, so we use Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt Kisco.

Now why would someone post something like this? maybe it's funny to you.But where were
you on September 11 2001? when the FDNY and NYPD gave their all and some their lives to
rescue innocent people from the WTC.

I'm suprised to see anyone take this stance and Im suprised that someone with your intelligence would make a statement like this.

If it were me and I felt that way,I would have kept it to myself or re-read what I posted and edited it out.

Born in the Bronx, raised in Brooklyn and Queens. Left NY at 18 and joined the Air Force, Moved to Nashville in 1965. Listened to country music all my life.

To those of you who read this thread for what it was -- a reasonable topic of discussion -- I thank you for your posts. With regard to the other posts, I've deleted the original post and others because some of the replies were so utterly rediculous as to make the original topic totally moot.

Jody, if you think the topic was rediculous, then why would you even post anything in the first place? Maybe you should have taken your own advice and deleted what you posted and moved on.

Better yet, perhaps you should take both a reading comprehension class and an anger management class. I think it would have been perfectly clear to any reasonable person that my original post was intended as a compliment to New York City and the people of that great town. All I said was that it seems like many good musicians come from NYC.

I think it's also clear that David's joke was just that -- a joke. What IS rediculous is that a supposed elder such as yourself can set such an example as to be so unreasonably reactionary.

Janice -- if you would be so kind as to close this thread before it becomes any more disgusting, I would be much obliged to you.
