Hmmmm, I think you've (unintentionally?) insulted listeners of country music with that one. The implication is that "pop" listeners are too "smart" to listen to their music (too "bubble gum" ?), and that the only way they can be marketed and make money is to market it as country to the "dumb hicks" that listen to country music.<SMALL>They are trying to disguise their pop/crap with a true country instrument to try and get more sales by posing as country!</SMALL>
Don't worry, though! I'm pretty thick-skinned about it. I like the music I like, and it doesn't matter much if others like it or not.
It does intrigue me, though, why singers like Faith Hill, etc. get marketed through country music, when they go so "pop" on the second and later albums. Is there some reason for this? Is it cheaper to test-market an act in the country genre? Does the artist change his/her tastes, or is it the record label? Kinda baffling, really.
