This is an excellent lineup for the Opry. It will be worth it all to watch the Clark Family Experience. They are all brothers and play Bluegrass and they can pick their butts off. The IV, Wilma Lee and Mel McDaniel will all be good also. This is a good mixture of new and old.

I humbly apologize for my earlier post in reference to the Clark Family Experience. That was not Bluegrass or Johnson grass and it sure wasn't a performance that belonged on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry and no Theresa, not even you can pull any country, new or old, out of that performance. Those kids have mega talent but they were out of place tonight. Sorry!

But, wasn't that opening number nice! When we got 32 bars of nice music in George Hamilton IV's song "Abilene", I could'a fell off the sofa! You see, I turned on the TV just as the ride started, and I thought "Holy Spit...they're actually playing an INSTRUMENTAL!" It turned out only to be the long ride in George's song, but it sure was nice to see everybody get 8 bars to "show some stuff"! This is the kind of thing we used to hear more often on the Opry...I hope they keep it up!!!

I liked the way George announced to the audience who had just performed (the Clark Family expierience)It was almost a good job now get the hell off the stage.Totally what's wrong with so called catagorized country music.Did not belong on the Opry stage.If that is the future thank God for the past.

Without casting any stones: When Marty Robbins used a accidental fuzz on "Don't Worry About Me" 40 years ago I recall people were rather intrigued with the new sound. I guess when a kid is brazen about using it it bothers us. Did I like it?, no, because it seemed to overide the rest of the instruments . Was it musical heresy?, no it wasn't...Pete

I have no problem,I repeat,no problem with distortion on electric dobro or any instrument for that matter as long as it is done in taste and is musical.I heard neither one.Any idiot can drag a steel bar across the neck of a guitar and get the same results.Grady Martins playing on "Don't Worry About Me" was musical and it was tasteful and would have been just as good if his amp was working properly.
And Theresa,as long as we have to listen to bad talent on the airwaves there will always be a need for the music police.Actually,in this case,the swat team would have been more appropriate.

I didn't hear the group on the Opry. I just think it's funny to hear alot of players putting down the music industry. It's about music and musicians. The Opry still has traditional and new country, why complain?

Of course not!

After all, then it'd be a boring place.

I didn't see their Opry performance, either. But I did see their video a few nights ago. If that's the song they performed, I can see why the "old-timers" (or should I say "more traditionalists" ?) would be somewhat upset.

I can't say I really liked the song, either. But what the heck -- I'm sure there are some who enjoyed it.

Theresa, Why not put down a music Industry by voiceing our own opinion on what we like and don't like as do you?.. When the Industry trys to dictate to us what they feel is the way it should be, and takes away what we still like..It seems to me they don't care about the people (however many)they are putting down. I don't mind changes for the good,but let's remember all the musicians who have been pushed aside as the new is supposed to be Booming.

I know this is a forum of opinion. I happen to think positive rather than negative thoughts. The industry is challenged right now and trying new avenues.
I welcome change and of course don't want to lose our roots. No one wants that!
Just because we may change somewhat, grow, that doesn't mean we lose our roots! Time will tell as always. Let's please listen with an open heart!

Theresa we are all trying to think positive about our musical choices...I think our only (minor)disagreement is about what is considered Country music today by the so called Industry. I listen close for good non repitious lyrics and catchy melodies..There are capable Artist out there except in my mind they are mostly clones of each other..It seems to me that all one has to do is change the words to most of the songs and keep re-releasing them over again...The Forum does help rid myself of frustration and I mean no insult to anyone.

Theresa, I don't believe any musician worth his picks would close the door on anything new. We talk of the disrespect we (the old timers) seem to have the the new kids and their ideas. I don't look at it as disrespect on our part but instead, a lack of respect for the "traditional" by the industry as a whole. Everytime a new kid comes to town, the menu changes and the the old timers seem to be the loosers. Why not make up a "Menu" to please everyone. There are no options for some of us that have spent a lifetime supporting the Opry and the acts they endorse. There is a market out there for the older or traditional stuff but no one seems to give a hoot. It seems the industry would prefer to listen to us pi$$ and moan rather than give us something to spend our money on.

There's plenty of country music you can spend your money on today. Of course, that would mean you'd have to listen to the radio.
You're not going to hear Porter, Bill,Jumping Bill,Billy, Stone Wall and the rest. They all had their day, it's time to move over for the new!

Theresa, I think it's more of a matter that the industry has gotten LAZY! They figure it's easier to have one artist sell a million than to have twenty artists sell 50,000. And, it's also a lot cheaper. (This is reflected in the $14.95 price tag on most hit CD's by the "biggies".)
