Branson Steel Player Joe McGuffy

Post by Ray Jenkins »

Levi Mullen who now lives and works in the San Antonio,Austin area made an album called "Hell Yes I'm Country" and it most certainly is.The steel on the album is what I would call "absolute".Everything compliments the singer as well as the other musicians. The timing for fills, riffs and his turn to play is great.Tasty and sometimes fast but always right on.His name is Joe McGuffy,I guess he lives in Branson.Anyone planning a trip ther should make it a must to go hear him.I've only heard the album. He has to be awsome live.Ray

Joe is a fine player but do not go to hear him at the show in Branson if you expect a lot of steel. To quote Al Gore they have his talents in a "Lock Box" and when I saw him he barely got to play..in fact his big moment was when he did a real low bass passage vocally in a song.Pete.

Is this the same Joe McGuffy who used to play with Dolly Parton in the 80's?

I saw Joe in the "Country Tonite" show at Branson last week. He did a super job. was well up in the mix and eventho his parts weren't the hi-light of the show, I (as a novice steel player) think he was a very important part of the show.

Dan, I'll do it. Ray, if you talk to Levi Mullen, tell him "Hello" for me. I worked with Levi in Nashville and in Branson. He was a lot of fun to work with. I had wondered what happened to him.
