Keith Gattis and Allison Moorer reviewed

Post by Alan Shank »

Just received CDs by Keith Gattis and Allison Moorer and was quite pleased.

If you were driving 'cross country, scanning for radio stations, and came across one playing any cut off Gattis' album, you'd know you had a country-music station. No dreaded "Nashivlle String Machine" on this one, folks! All except two cuts written by Keith himself, too. Steel is quite prominent and by Hal Rugg, with Rob Hajacos & Glen Duncan on fiddles and "Pig" Robbins on honky-tonk piano.

I wouldn't call it a "great" album, but it's good, solid stuff for my taste.

I saw Allison Moorer on "The George Jones Show" a couple of weeks ago. She also writes most of her own stuff. Only one song is sullied by the much-belothed NSM. Steel is somewhat less prominent than on KG's CD, played by Dan Dugmore.

It will be interesting to see how these two fare in "the biz," and whether their next efforts (if any) move toward the bland "centrist" Nashville style.

Cheers,
Alan Shank

Allison Moorer's CD is great.

The only fame she's got so far is "Lookin' For a Soft Place to Fall" from the movie "The Horse Whisperer".

My prediction is that she will be overlooked by radio.

I have Kieth's first album...Kicks Ass!!!
I've never heard of Allison, but I hope she doesn't do to Kieth what Wynonna a.k.a. Wide-load-a did to Clint Black.
Are you going to the Woodgrass festival in November? Maybe we'll see you there.
