New version {Wynn Stewart Song "Playboy"

Post by Al Udeen »

Last nite I was on my way home from an out of town gig, and heard a great cut of "Playboy" with a LOT of great steel,I assume this is a recent album cut, The station faded out just as they gave the singers name! Anyone know who it might be? Believe me, This is one You will all want! Thanks// Al Udeen

It could be the version from the Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen album "Bakersfield Bound".The steel is by J.D. Maness and he`s all over the rest of the album, too.I agree;every steel player should at least check this one out!

I agree, and although the song has been out for some five years, I imagine it gets a good spin from DJ's who are hankering for a modern honky-tonk sound.

When it came out, I was a little sceptical after being burnt by some other baby-boomer projects. But after I heard the CD, I just could not believe how good it was and remains.
In fact it turned me back onto modern country, of course I was dissapointed that not a lot of modern country sounded like that, but I guess there's a lot of good stuff in Texas and California that we have a hard time finding out this way.

It could also be the version from Dwight Yockams Under the Covers.
The Hillmen/Patterson album is now available thru the forum.

Actually Janice, that is a good call I forgot about Dwights version, which is pretty fine piece of work, but I personally would stick with Chris & Herb on the 'Bakersfield Bound' CD.

It's so cool to hear that it's available throught the Forum!
