Went to see him Sat. night at our Co. Fair-Great show, but no steel!! Did he ever use steel on the road? In the song Old School the keyboard player using a Yamaha SX75 did an amazing imitation, but it's not the same. All in all though it was a great show for gate admission of 5 bucks! Hire a steel man John!!!!!!!!!!!
A friend of mine use to play bass with him and at that time, he did have a steel player. Seems like he had one when I saw him at the Opry back in March too.
John Conlee has had 3 steel players-and we were all in Woodstock,NY at the same show last summer...Terry Crisp,Rex Wiseman, and myself. He doesn't have a steel player at the moment,as far as I know.I worked for him for four years and had a ball!
Besides being a great singer and performer, John Conley is also a funeral director. We both graduated from the same school, I just did it first. Does that make me older? NOT!
A band I was with in So. Calif. opened for him in the first part of '85 at the Golden West. He had a steel player at that time who was married to a female bass player who worked for Porter Waggoner. I don't remember his name but he played pretty good.
I just paid $4.00 in a venue of 400 to see Bill Anderson and Donna was there.
