CBS Cable (TNN & CMT) now part of MTV

Post by Bob Maickel »

According to the latest press releases, the recent CBS merger with Viacom will combine CBS cable's operations of TNN and CMT with those of Viacom owned MTV. No mangement changes at TNN or CMT, but Viacom is only interested in revenues generated by its MTV operations. It will be interesting to see how this affects Country Music on cable and the TV broadcast of the Opry in particular.

Any ideas as to when this will be a done deal? I've been hearing about it for a few weeks now, very curious as to any changes that might take place...Pat

The deal is done.CBS is no longer listed on the NY Stock Exchange. 2 key CBS Cable exec's have been let go. Viacom is a huge company, so anything can happen as far as Country Music programming is concerned. It'll take 'em a short while to institute any changes..

Bob, If the CBS/TNN thing had happened before you retired, you could have transferred to Nashville...
