Listening to WSM this morning they played a song by Juice Newton and I understood them to say that she would be on the Opry tonight but I never saw her. I have been hearing her sing for years but I know absolutely nothing about her. To me she is a mystery, almost like a rainbow.

After that incredible solo, I tried to imagine why Tommy chose to do it on C6th in the first place. Did he start out in C6th just because he was backing a Texan, and then found himself there for the solo? It wasn't a "swing" tune by any stretch of the imagination.

How did he do that, anyway? It was like there was fire coming out of his hands. I've never heard anyone play like that on the C6th. Awesome!

I agree with all of the above. The song Don
sang had a pretty good lyric, good yodeling.
Andy Griggs did not do a thing for me, only
the steel, I didn't care for his songs or
his "style". Sorry, I'm a little tired of
Porter, His early stuff was pretty good, not
great. Oh, well, you have the great with a
little whatever. Sorry I always did dig
Western Swing for the steel and the fiddles.
Right now the CD going round is Ernest Tubb

Bobby,
Funny you should ask about how the solo on C6th came about.I listened to Don's recording and note for note learned the original first and had intended on playing it on E9th,but when I sat down behind the steel my evil twin took control. As for the song being swing,waltz,shuffle or what ever,time signature has never really been a deciding factor in which tuning I use,but now that you've mentioned it,maybe I should have contained myself and used the E9th.

Tommy - Your picking on Don's tune was fabulous. I recorded the show for Don, so I've watched it a few times. You did great. Even our steel player, Scott Walls, was very impressed. He's an old pal of yours from when he worked at Sho-Bud back in the early 70's. Keep up the great work and I'm glad you enjoyed playing with Don. He's a gentleman and a true talent.
