Member of the Jordanaires passes

Post by Janice Brooks »

Those of you who for years have enjoyed the music of the Jordanaires are sorrowed to learn that long time member Neal Matthews passed away Friday night. He will be missed by all who followed the number system of studio recording that Neal invented and will miss his beautful voice. He will be buried Tuesday here in Nashville after services at the Immanuel Baptist Church. His remains for visitations are at Brentwood
Funeral Home. Those of us who worked in the industry since the early fifties will miss him most.

When i first discovered Country music around '82, i was listening to records from the 70s when the Country Politan style was popular. The Jordanaires were on so many records as back-up singers. They are my all-time favorite back-up group.

I started writing songs in the 80s with the dream of going to Nashville and making records with all the great players, including The Jordanaires. Well, i never pursued that dream for various reasons. I do remember being thrilled when they made it back on the radio singing with the Judds.

Neal Matthews is one of the heavies, for sure. He will be missed.
