Anyone know of Jack Barlow?
He used to perform on the WLS Barndance in Chicago in the 60's. My uncle was once associated with him in some capacity, but my uncle is deceased, so I can't ask him. The last time I heard his name mentioned was during a '92 broadcast of the 'Opry. Roy Acuff mentioned him as the man doing the voice-over for a Dollar General Store commercial that had just finished; I'm guessing it was the same Jack Barlow I'm thinking of. I have a couple of his singles from the early '60's, and one album from the mid'70's, on the Dot label. I believe he was from Fruitland, IA, near Muscatine, and a heck of a singer. Just wondered if anyone else was familiar with him.

I met Jack Barlow in Nashville about 25 years ago. This was during the period when his Big Red chewing gum TV commercial was running nationally. For some reason, I was under the impression that he was either from, or living in, Peoria, Il. at the time. He had a great voice. Don't know what ever became of him though.

Now that you mention it, the info on the Dot album I have said he had a farm in Dixon County, Kentucky; I'm not very familiar with Kentucky, so this doesn't tell me much. I never realized he frequented the Peoria area.
Thanks for the response, George. P.S., I'm just north of you, near the Wisconsin border.
