Bozo Darnell

Anyone have any information on this singer?

I think he had a tune called "I'll Be Your Stepping Stone".

Bozo has been around since the early 60s, possibly even back into the 50s. you are right, he recorded and i believe wrote "your stepping stone" and also a great tune called "sha marie" which wynn stewart and others did. bozo's version of "sha marie" is fantastic with a louisiana style fiddle and what must be ralph mooney on steel.

he made probably a dozen 45 rpm records in the 60s and 70s, all on small labels, none hits.

he also made one album, recorded live at mister lucky's in phoenix, about 30 years ago. as i recall it is a bit of music and also some comedy, sort of like ben colder/sheb wooley.

he is a fine traditional honky tonk artist, and i wish i knew what he has been up to in the last 20 years. betcha waylon would know.

You gotta have a pretty strong self-image to wear a moniker like "Bozo". (Most of us spend our lives trying to avoid being called that!)
[This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 09 April 2000 at 06:42 PM.]

Jimmy Y,
Unfortunately Bozo Darnell passed away a couple of years ago. I exchanged a couple of emails with his son, Reuben, back in October. He has some interesting stories to tell about his dad & Wynn. If you want the son's email address let me know. He is a singer & has a CD out I think.
